Bruno Giacomelli turned down a Williams drive, cause his heart told him to go with the returning Alfa F1 team, he had been mostly with British formula teams 'til then, and he later said Alfa biggest disappointment of his career and a big mistake. Car sounds great and looks even better, but for Bruno was not a happy experience in end.
I know the car and it current whereabouts. It is the 179B/004, scoring its first WC F1-points on January 13, 1980 in Buenos Aires, Argentina with the then 27-year old Bruno Giacomelli behind the wheel. In total this car scored 5 WC-points.
Are you sure it's from 1983 because the Alfa Romeo 183T which was used in 1983 had a 1.5L turbo engine. The 1982 car had a 3litre normally aspirated engine
Who remembers the year that saw the track remembers' a f1 not just beautiful but very powerful and too competitive. On many occasions did the pole and was fast on a par with Ferrari, Renault. Williams and Brabham. Accused but 'often reliability problems' and that the penalty was never able to win a GP. Too bad really.
Peccato veramente.
Yeah right, and in the crazy turbo era of the 80's with 1300hp+ in qualifying and 900hp in the races, they used turbo-charged 1,5 litre engines, and it was still lightning fast. So fast they banned turbos for 1989.
F1 cars had 1,5 litre engines in 1961-1965 too, and they were light and fast even then.
They have been running 2,4 litre V8's since 2006 and they are fast enough.
I am all for a new turbo-era, with ultra-efficient engines and fast racing.
you can all say that ALFAS are this ALFAS are that but first wash your mouth before you even think of saying Alfa Romeo and if you were both on a burning building i would save the car first
In three words... total...car...porn. Beautiful! More rattly but louder and more visceral than the Ferrai V12. Best ever F1 sound? It has to be a contender...
You never want to stand behind one of these. The sound will shred your eardrums. There were two of these up at Sears Point a few years ago. And people wonder why I don't hear so well.
Look at all the people covering their ears, what pussies. If a screaming Alfa V12 was the last thing I ever heard, the memories would make up for the deafness.
I suggest you wash your ears out and then stop trying to be clever when it's obvious you know fuck all about F1 history, this car or what a V12 Alfa engine sounds like.....wish as you are unsure it sounds like this video!
The internet, the meeting point for know all's who actually know fuck all......globally!

Remember this when F1 cars are running 1.6 litre engines in the very near future.

The guy is wearing surgery gloves... of course... a great surgeon is the only one allowed to touch on an Alfa Romeo's HEART...
evalverdes 2 years ago 42
@evalverdes he just protects his hand :)
gmiky 3 months ago
@evalverdes no because alfa romeo's are so unreliable and so fragile, that even a great surgeon could kill it with one touch of a exposed finger.
k4n3n1 1 week ago
False, it was infact a naturally aspired 3L V12. Alfa Romeo & Ford-Cosworth were the only ones that remained naturally during the turbo era.
