Thank you very kindly John for not only showing how to play this gorgeous piece, but also thank you for putting the chord positionings. Do you have other videos where you do this ? EWF were pretty much all vegetarians. You can hear the higher energy coming through their music. They are functioning with higher consciousness. I used to do this song with my band 35 years ago in the clubs. Love it !
My grandma used to say "a closed mouth does'nt get fed"!!! Could you post a video of how to play "Love's Holiday" by E.W.F. I've learned so much from your videos and would love to learn that song. I've tried to pick it up on my own and get fustrated. I know you will make it look easy!!!
I could have used this video three years ago when I was struggling to learn the chords (don't know jack about jazz chords) lol...but I'm glad there's finally a channel with helpful R&B videos like this one. I'm subscribed.
I really enjoy the way you accurately play this song. Im a big fan of EWF and also a guitar player.
Could you please send me the fingering chord charts for the chords your using because from the video im having a little trouble getting them right. Thanks so much!
I'm brazilian. I really liked this version. I madeone with the face of Brazil. I mean, like MPB (Pop Music Brasilian). Take a look at my channel.
Eu sou brasileiro. Eu gostei muito desta versão. Eu fiz uma com a cara do Brasil. Quer dizer, tipo MPB (Música Popular Brasileira). Deem uma olhada no meu canal.
Just wanted to say thanks! I learned this last night from your vid and posted it to YT. Mine is the shorter "single" version. I hope I did it justice. Thanks again!
@rocketsfan28 sorry, my bad, CM7 slides into the DbM7, as for the B7/Gbm6 I still hear the D#/Eb on top. So DbM7-Db/Abm7-BM7(which if you include the bass line might be Gb6/Db, Gb6 is the similar to BM7 Gb,Bb,Eb same as F#,A#,D#) Gb6 to Gbm6 (similar to B7) then CM7 slides to DbM7 to the top of the progression. The chords are only implied but the inner voices (2nd 3rd 4rth strings) are most important.
After further review. You're *mostly right. I updated the chords to reflect the corrections in the intro. So it's DbM7, Abm7/Db, Gb6/Db, Gbm6, CM7 then repeat.
* the only hair I'll split with you is, in this song, you have to consider the bass which is on Db and there is no B in that chord so i couldn't be considered a B7 (maybe in chord shape minus the actual B note). Thanks for the additional ear!
I have to respectfully disagree with the intro. I hear DbM7, Db11 or B/C#, BM7, B7, C7 repeat. If you listen to the recording you can hear the Eb on top for 3 measures. Note I am not analysing what the bass does, just the inner 3-4 string guitar part.
@sepulveda67 - watching the video I saw after the 1st 2 chords it's not right as i've been playing this song for years. i scrolled to see if anyone picked up on it & you r right on the money with the chords. I actually finger it to include the C# bass note thru the 1st 4 chords. good ear.
Fabulous!!!!! Can you please spell the chord at 4:17, 4:18, 4:19 on the word "mind"? It's such an awesome chord - makes the song!!!! Don't you just love all the major 7th chords in this song? They are so awesome....and so are you! :)
GREAT JOB!!! Could you post a video on Fankie Beverly and Maze's "Happy Feelings". I can't seem to figure out the chords on that song. Please do it and post it pleeeeeeeeeze!!
Johnezekiel you don't need to be a cock about it - also can I suggest that the second chord (the Db9), a sus4 is added. Alternatively, this vamp can be easier if you think of it as the following chords all over a Db pedal: DbMaj7 - B - Gb6 - Gbm6
Great ! Thanks for uploading. Should advice to play the Gbmaj7.-Gbmi7- Gbmi6 Dbdim in a dubb quarter finished and start again with Dbmaj7. Stay enjoying the music of good old E,W & F.

Very poorly played.wouldn't make it in my r&b band.all the chords in the first verse should be played over a d flat root as such.Db maj 7/Db-Dbdom7add9-Gbmaj7.-Gbmi7-Gbmi6 Dbdim- Dbmaj7 remember Db flat root throughout all above chords!
ay um my friend would the owner of this video of anyone else that knows please how to know what those chords are and what the numbers and everything mean... i mean if you could just tell me the rules im could be able to figure it out
You have the sol nailed down. The original is obviously inspired by BB King a lot. What do you think this song is about , the message ?

Agreed! The bass is doing it's own thing, the guitar has the upper voices in each harmonic progression.
