I've had n97 for 4 months, it's inadequate RAM is my issue. I am now waiting for my HTC Touch Pro 2 (Sprint) to arrive :)
The n97 recently only charges when it feels like it. Installed Opera for multitab, now phone freezes, have to pull the rear cover, remove and restore battery to restart phone. Game visuals VERY bad stutter, quite possibly I purchased a dud handset.
but video record is good!
I do not recommend the n97 and I admit I will be throwing mine against a wall when my HTC arrives.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
u probably cant afford such expensive phones or u are a nokia agent tatz y satisfying ur self by sayin such awesome creations as big phones u dumb guy, those are wot people want, get ur a ss outa here have some knowledge then come back to me but b4 tat decide first wot u wana argue on u "KIDO",u dun know wot u say, want small phones ??then go get them have nokia 2100 and go watch its video n comment there wot r u doin here?
i wonder a person usin tat cheap 5800 has so much talkings in him/her
Trent, this is exactly what I'm currently thinking about! I was going to go with ATT because my unlocked Nokia would get 3G, and with T-mobile it wouldn't, but T-mob's "Even More Plus" is too good to pass up!
Nokia has its strong sides but IMHO symbian software is outdated and nokia needs to come up with something exciting if they wanna keep their business customers.
To be honest since I got iphone 3g (after many years of using nokia E series phones) I was not paying attention to nokia's system developing. But from what I saw on youtube and friends that are still using nokia situation was not improved to justify price that nokia has on N-devices. I have to say that I like N900 thats coming out right now but lets be honest with out major involvement from nokia side in to OVI store apps developing iphone will still come out as a winner in many years to come.
@plau85-Funny ... like nishant699 did, but man, Omnia HD doesn't have QWERTY! And HD is huge-Dude do u hv any idea wot u say?,HD is only in demand for tat reason only,u say n97,hd all are big for u-rofl,as u being user of 5800 it is way backward n cheap phone n u still using it i cn understand u dun hv any idea or knowledge abt beauty of these category devices, come up on ur 5800 1st ,use HD then advice sm1 OK,now dun say u already did,u complaining abt lack physical qwerty when u own a 5800 rofl
No shit Sherlock, I'm talking about my upcoming phone which has to have qwerty and I am same time agreeing with Trente, we prefer physical qwertys! All are not like you and want phones without qwerty and huge phones. I have had now long time 5800 cause there wasn't perfect qwerty phone on the market when I bought this and 5800 was the perfect nonqwerty phone back then FOR ME.
As u said-no phone camera will ever surpass a dedicated HD camera.-TRUE but beats all camera phones in market in quality
Text entry alone on Symbian 5th edition without a tactile qwerty is bad enough-i disagree as if physical qwerty pad is good enough in feedback thn it has its advantages over screen qwerty but in this case i dun think so n97 keypad is even average in response,u wont feel weird with HD,z ram n the screen beats out allt in display quality but, much better cpu+graphics+ram+screen
@Trent-dude on n97,s keyboard u felt much more easier to type then omnia...??? u sure i cnt believe it ,there is no need of external kb when u have comfortable onscreen qwerty typing ,it is much more then acceptable then n97,n97 jus have a keyboard to show n not use it lacks feedback n on omnia HD
i neva run outa RAM or find any difficulty in typing on screen qwerty i can race any 1 typin on n97 with my HD ,n i bet on tat,but if u have inner corner for physical qwerty then ur choice
I have a feeling it is EITHER the N900 as stated or the Ericsson Satio. It mat not be the Satio because knowing you you like QWERTY Keyboards.......Maybe its the Samsung Omnia B7610?
Funny that someone always try to offer "better" phone like nishant699 did, but man, Omnia HD doesn't have QWERTY! And HD is huge.
Actually N97 is also huge FOR ME! but N97mini would be perfect since I am using now 5800XM. Will maybe upgrade to mini next summer, but wanna see also what new Nokia has to offer then. N97mini with 256 ram would be awesome. Will wait and see what summer brings to me.
i watch all of your podcasts, good wishes for your upcoming career but why would u go to n97 when there is a device thats much more fast ,with bigger and gorgeous amoled screen and much more better capacitive touch ,here you get a load of combination with HD quality vid recrd and 8 mg pix what more you ask for,i feel n97 z keyboard is useless with poor feedback
i personaly bought n97 and returned it after just 1 day,now using Samsung omnia HD since a month ,ITS AWESOME
Simply put, the N97 has a hardware qwerty and reliable video recording capabilities. The Symbian 5th edition OS is very clunky to begin with, and having a tactile keypad makes navigation that much easier. The Omnia HD is not an option without a tactile qwerty, and I've actually played with one in person for a short period of time. Text entry alone on Symbian 5th edition without a tactile qwerty is bad enough, and no phone camera will ever surpass a dedicated HD camera.
Once I learned to tolerate the N97 feedback, it was suitable to work with...until the RAM problems discouraged my wanting to keep it. I would be open to a touch-only device if the OS provided an acceptable typing experience, and unfortunately the version running on Omnia HD doesn't.
IMO the whole resolution thing is a bit stupid. It has gone to the same point as Nokia, SE and Samsungs megapixel race. I can't see other than web browser that it makes much of a difference and even then the soft is 10x more important than resolution. I mean how often do you hear people complaining about the iphone 480x320 reso. At least the N97 got 640×360 screen.
That said the N900 screen looks brilliant with WVGA screen.
Yeah pretty much agree, but the N97 has noticeable colour gradients - I just think Nokia could have done better with it. N900, now that looks a stunning device.
In October i bought a used Nokia 6220 Classic for $70, the phone was locked to 3(a european carrier) and i use Tele2(also a european carrier).
The idea was that i were going to unlock it cheaply, but i found out that it would cost me another $70 to unlock it so i never did it. After a while the phone broke so i sent it to Nokia to have it repaired. The problem was that Nokia was taking such a long time to repiar it that they sent me a new unlocked one instead...
..last Friday the new phone arriwed with UPS and i immedeatily saw that the new phone was broken too. The battery cover was bent and wouldn't stay on the phone and the keypad had a little crack in it. I sent it back to Nokia and last Tuesday they told me that they were going to replace my 6220 Classic with a unlocked 6720 Classic instead. It will be here on Monday. Jippie! So, to make a long story short, what do you think about the 6720 Classic? Any tips on apps?
I don't have much experience with feature phones, but I can suggest Google Maps and Gravity for reliable apps on Symbian. As long as the device works properly for your own personal use, that's all that matters.
I use Tele2 Snackis and pay $2,64 a month and pay 3 cents for every minute i call to all carriers. SMS/MMS are 3 cents each too. Data is not included, i pay $4 a month for 200 MB, or $8,20 for 1 GB.
Good choice on T-Mobile... Ive had them for years now they've always had the best Customer service, as well as some impressive handsets...Not to mention, Rumor has it that the HTC HD2 will be on T-Mobile! Hoorah!
You don't need an expensive PDA plan or a pay-as-you-go data plan with T-Mobile. Unless you use a BlackBerry or Palm, you don't need a PDA plan. With my last 3 Nokia smartphones, I've had 1,000 minutes, unlimited nights/weekends & unlimited data for under $50. T-Mobile is good stuff.
Can't you nab an N900 for close to the same price as an N97 now?
Just personal preference to have a data plan from past experience with AT&T. I use constant email updates and surf the web, so every smartphone of mine is used like a practical BlackBerry.
Can't wait to see Trent.. We are currently switching to Verizon because tmobile sucks balls out here in the west...
I am getting the HTC Eris. :D I had a hard time choosing between the Blackberry storm 2, the Motorola Droid, and the htc Eris.. I wanted something slick thin and does what the G1 does but FASTER!
what happened to the touch pro 2. it has the keyboard and a bigger touchscreen. mabye not so good with the camera..but i would say they have about the same multimedia features.
I still have the Touch Pro 2 and it works very well in regards to its features. However, the lack of 3G often makes it sluggish when downloading data. I still have it as my backup device.
I've had n97 for 4 months, it's inadequate RAM is my issue. I am now waiting for my HTC Touch Pro 2 (Sprint) to arrive :)

If you haven't been sleeping under the rock, Nokias smartphone future is on Maemo 5 and Maemo 6.
The new Symbian Foundation OS is taking Nokias mid end phone line. In 2012 there will be only Maemo phones in N series.
