  • @Mikeybetts haha yeah Simon is quite the funny guy xD

  • I think the only non-Aussies that can do a convincing Aussie accent are probably New Zealanders.

  • @needles1987 They just have to change around their vowels :P

  • @HonestBloke I know people who lived out in the country towns and they don't speak like that :\

  • I met a guy from Queensland once, on a train in Germany, and my jaw literally dropped when I heard him actually use 'crikey' in a sentence. In a non-ironic way.

  • @escibs Yeah those Queenslanders are quite backwards....:P

  • Holy shit maate, that woz some ripper of a vid. By the wayyy, didjya throw the tinnies in the fridge?

  • ill take your posters lol cheatinf though. maybe ill try get me old boy to do one :)

  • I love how many people this the Victorian accent is British. Hilarious.

I've actually had other Aussies say I sound British though. I'm that boss.

  • @AcidIntimacy Wait you're not British?

  • @Beckophilia A NEW GUY AT WORK ASKED IF I WAS ENGLISH AGAIN TONIGHT.

    WUT. WUT.

  • If you guys want help with this,I'd recommend the docuumentary The Sounds of Aus,hosted by John Dawe. It's available at the ABC Shop & on plenty of torrent sites. It talks about how the accent came to be through the children of First Fleeters wanting a generic accent that did not reflect class or region. Also, there are 3 main types of Aussie accent-broad (Steve Irwin)general(which most of us have) and cultivated.(Think Claudia Black)To do an Aussie accent, you must decide which 1 u want to do.

  • The only one even vaguely close was the young girl. Her accent was nice and soft.

  • @BrisVegess Yeah Katherine got close sometimes but it was a little too British :P

  • Bet youre from southern Oz, I noticed when you go up north the accent gets thicker.

  • @IKimdraculaI It does get thicker but it's still not the full on stereotypical accent.

  • BTW, It's a prison you live in. You're all prisoners, but you've done lovely things to it. jk

  • It depends where you are. Australia is a really big country to have just one accent. I could say there are at least 3 different types.

  • You Encourage me to merge with this community which i just dropped into ;)

    Viva la Aussies

  • @kanatfara7 haha you should!

  • I think I might do this... Whenever I try any accent whatsoever it either ends up Australian or East Indian... So. Yeah.

  • @ilovelibertyTYC DO IT!!

  • my names aligator dundee? wat a fuk head! lol

  • I LOVE YOUR ACCENT!!! =)

  • @FindMeInKurume Thanks :)

  • aussies form the country talk like that with the okker accent

  • @KingBrettx Not all of them! I have plenty of friends that are from the country.

  • I attempted an Australian accent, but all I can come up with is something akin to a New Zealander coming off a four day drinking binge. It's bad news.

  • @IrishLincoln haha I want to hear it! :D

  • 2:18 is that a Kangaroo!? So is this where I got to go to see rob in a vid. No worries mate i watch your vids reguardless. Anyways if I had a Cam Id win at this, I love your accent so ive imitated it and steve irwins many of times.

  • @CharlieBuck37 haha that would've been amazing if it was but kangaroos are much bigger!

I really want to hear your Aussie accent now! Try and find a camera!!

  • @Beckophilia @charliebuck37

    1) David, I KNOW! I'll be making videos again, and I plan to make a few in a couple weeks when I get down there =p

    2) Beck, I'll make sure to have my brother do an Australian accent so you can see lol.

  • @ChaoticCookie37 Yay :D

  • damn you!! i was totally going to enter -.- you saw through my epic plan

also prize should be SUPER australian...like vegemite :)

  • @AussieHobbit haha I'll still love to see your entry ;)

  • Brittish, New Zealand or Crocadile Dundee, all of them.

  • @ForgettableZeb all of them at once.

  • Damn I thought for sure I'd win this competition but I'm an Aussie already. Hmm. No point entering anyway?

  • @LonelyBlackButterfly haha you can if you want to but you won't be able to win :P

  • O how I Feel your frustration !

See I'm french, and every time I hear someone attempting to do a French accent I cringe- and don't know if I should laugh, cry, or feel offended. xD

Also, I used to be one of those people who couldn't tell the difference between Australian accents and British accents. But don't worry, now I can clearly hear the differences. ^^

  • @Kazaelle Ah yeah everyone does the same French accent. I'm guessing that's like the Steve Irwin accent to us?

And I'm glad to hear that :D

  • @Beckophilia, Yeah, I guess so :)

But I believe that most people do the ridiculous "Hollywood french accent" because they don't know how an actual french person sounds in English. Yet, it's very easy to hear an authentic one if curious ; youtube-search + Daft Punk (or Justice, or Phoenix) interview, and tadam! There you go... (Also, I absolutely love Steve Irwin's accent, and no I'm not joking ^_^)

  • @Kazaelle hah i work at a french cafe, (in melbourne), and i speak in french accents all the time. it's hilarious though, because the french owners always hit back at me and try and mimmick my accent. it's great! only laughs! =)

  • @distorm How fun ! You seem to be working in a great atmosphere. Lucky you :)

  • Vegemite would definitely be a great reward, lets face it if you don't eat Vegemite you're not Australian anyway :P.

  • @Juruken Did you miss it? :P

  • @Beckophilia Did I miss it!?!? I still do! :P I'm still in the states. I did bring some with me tho

  • @Beckophilia

    :P

  • I noticed while travelling overseas that North Queenslanders have a very strong aussie accent, practically the stereotypical one. We also reached the point where we could recognise a fellow aussie accent from a mile away.

Also - the amount of people that can't distinguish between an aussie accent and a British accent when hearing it spoken amazes me. Clearly they expect the Steve Irwin. But we don't sound British haha

  • @becsterism haha I know right! Then again I guess there'll be differences in different American accents that we don't pick up on. :\

  • @Beckophilia G'day... (Cough Cough !)... Well, actually, Young Girlie...; just because you learned to talk from Sesame Street on TV in the Sheepurbs, doesn't mean that real people don't still speak 'Strine.. Also, I live at South Dundee Heights, so search 'Kung Fu Kangaroo Dundee' to verify that..! If y' want Proof of Accent, try 'Control Freaks Are Losers', at my Playlists, under "Pontificating Warbles". The Prose is unafected. Ranting normally.

  • Last summer, I made it my goal to perfect my Australian accent. I ended up practicing it for like...one day. Yeah. So I'm probably too terrible to even attempt a video response, but it sounds fun so I might :D

  • @lauradoestheastro haha I look forward to it xD

  • You guys are racist :P

  • @Tyezrules1 Perhaps ... :P

  • awkward *

  • @ohmygias You typos awkward...how awkward :P

  • @Beckophilia AND I TYPOED TYPO! HOW AWKWARD! :P

  • @Beckophilia TYPOD******* wow I fail today

  • you sound like that...awkwrad...

  • Hugh Jackman is actually a Kiwi he just doesn't want to admit it....

  • @justanotherkiwi SHIT... I totally just mixed Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe up.......

  • @justanotherkiwi pssshhh! Russell Crowe is alright but Hugh Jackman is effing amazing! He's definitely one of ours! xD

  • @Beckophilia Hughy is the mann! I still can't believe I mixed the two up!!! stoopid me :P

  • i was totally gonna do this until u said u can't have an aussie accent to start with

  • @MikaelaJonasXD Well it kind of defeats the purpose...

  • holy crap i didn't realize how terrible mine was until now xD

  • @justduncannohiro haha it's ok I won't hold it against you :P

  • I though the thing (racoon?) in the back of one of robs videos was a possum for a minute. I was like O.o

  • @TheManicBard Haha! That is actually our cat, she is just really ugly xD

  • squidgygill oh dear that was a weird accent....no australian in it...at alll

  • @britishgoose01 of course not *shifty eyes*

  • @Beckophilia well it was weird

  • you can thank crocodile Dundee for that, i worked with an aussie in newzealand...ino, they didnt sound like steve irwin either

  • @britishgoose01 Damn you Crocodile Dundee!

  • I have friends all around the world that think we all speak like steve irwin too ! This is so so so righhtt haha! Love this video llol

  • @gummypandabearlover haha it's ridiculous! You'd think they'd realise by now that we don't speak like that

  • Haha, took me a while, but I worked out why Steve/Qiranger looked/sounded so familiar - he's popped up briefly on a language podcast I've recently stumbled upon during my travels. Was kind of a trip thinking "WTF, how in the heck do I *know* that guy???"

  • @ZOMGBananas haha he has a very recognisable voice :)

  • i still love your panic poster! im finally seeing them live on this sunday, i remember you telling me they were good live or at least i think it was you.

  • @unicornpantssteph Yes they are really good live! :D Have fun! :D

  • to be honest the real fun in putting on an Aussie accent is to make it as ridiculous as possible. but, i'm a Kiwi so...........

  • @mimei And we like to make fun of your accent so we're even here? :P

  • All of those guys did better than me. I can't seem to get another accent out. You might laugh at this, but it took me about 4 and a half minutes before I realized exactly what channel I was on.

  • @ZPHOENIX27 haha xD

  • Great idea Beck, maybe Vegemite and Tim Tams for a prize.

  • @Arthur40TwoDent Tim Tams of course! I forget about them because it makes me heartbroken that I can't eat them :(

  • The only convincing Aussie accent was Meryl Streep in Evil Angels. Her accent only slipped once.

  • @necroturky I haven't seen that! Maybe I should look it up :)

  • As a chinese exchange student I am eligible to enter XD

  • @ItsNedDixon Then enter my son! :P

  • I can't believe I forgot to say "goodday mate"... I fail.

  • @PsyIn2D haha I thought it was funny that 5/6 said it :P

  • I think different states in Australia have different accents. I don't attempt accents because I suck at them. Oh dang I can't enter dang the Aussie accents the only one I can do.

  • @cheekychickenhead totally true

  • @cheekychickenhead They do but no one talks in that over the top way >.>

  • I agree. Ya know I don't even know how to do an australian accent. Guess it just comes natural for us aussies <-- Way to state the obvious. o.- Vegimite as a prize, how nice of you lol.

  • @hawkkagestorm haha it would come naturally otherwise it'd be weird if we had to put it on all the time :P

And hey! Americans are always talking about Vegemite so ... yeah ... :P

  • @Beckophilia That's true, can't argue with that. I suppose they want to test it or something, they're possibly in for a shock. I dunno about you but I hate that stuff, unless it's lightly spread and mixed with butter on toast. Thank you for replying back.

  • guess the melbourne youtube video makers cant also enter as well lol

  • @phillipsouter86 haha nope that's cheating :P

  • I might try and do one after I finish the endless essays i'm having to write at the moment. I'm decent at accents sometimes so this might be fun.The last time I was asked to do an aussie one though I got drunk and sang we don't need another hero from mad max. Sadly I had to take that one down it was quite funny too.I think i'll try and channel a mix of Yahoo Serious and the singer of Midnight oil maybe they will do me good.

  • @bearchay889 Peter Garrett? hahaha

  • Wow they were so bad hahahaha

    That was awesome :)

  • @ChannelBravo I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

  • Yes! My comment was the first one that popped up on the screen! I feel special now.

  • You're putting on a voice beck!

  • @nnathansmith I'm just that amazing :P

  • Hi!

  • @allenheresy Hello!

  • . some of those accents had moments of Australian 'ism' - will be interesting to see your responses next time ..

  • @GeoffJennyOliver haha yeah there were moments where they nearly got it but it was more British than Aussie

  • AHAHA! Oh wow. That was painful! I don't think anybody even got the Aussie pronunciation of "Australia" right! :P

Impressed by Steve's "footy" though! Also Duncan having Silverchair and Kylie's first albums! Haha and Simon was hilarious. Lol, and was John (badly) trying to say "What does 'fair dunkum' mean"?!

  • @wanderlots haha it was so painfully amusing xD

  • That was fun! :) See you next time!

  • @phampants Thanks for participating John :D

  • You TOTES speak like that! :)

  • @phampants Bloody hell mate! You ain't s'posed to realise!

  • Steve Irwin apparently had elocution lessons to sound more occa. And i know it shouldn't but the whole 'shrimp on the barbie' thing annoys the shit out of me (stupid Paul Hogan tourism ad).
