@nocternum77 The alcohol won't stay in. It evaporates from the boiling process. It does leave the flavor behind. So you should be fine. However, if you are worried about it you could use white rice vinegar as a substitute I would think.
I heard the only reason they changed the name of the song is because "Ue O Muite Aruko" was to hard for Americans to say and remember so they changed the name to a more familiar word that is directly related to Japan and people wont have trouble saying. Not sure if thats true though.
taste good.. but i don't think i could find those ingredients here in our country.... tsk2 too bad for me owwww!!!!!!! hey runny how it's feel like to be in japan. cause i love japan especially the foods.....yumm...my!!!!!
@AznDarknessMs it's sweet cooking rice wine. It's in many japanese dishes. You can find in any asian market. I think i also saw it in the asian food section of Vons.
Ue o Muite Arukō was renamed "Sukiyaki" by a record label because the original title was deemed too difficult for westerners to pronounce or remember. "Sukiyaki" became a big hit here in America when it was released in 1963. What you are singing was originally a cover of Sukiyaki by A Taste Of Honey in 1981. Same melody, different lyrics, and rather depressing I think. 4 PM covered that version in 1995. My favorite is still the original, even though I don't know what he's saying.
Thanks for the instruction, I finally got the courage to try and make Sukiyaki for myself. And I was successful, I was a big hit! Yes finding a Japanese grocery store for the ingredients was a challenge. But it was worth it!
your comment about the sukiyaki being name of a song is funny, and you have a good voice and we chinese also dip cooked meat and vegetable from hotpot in raw egg too ~ good job!
What does raw eggs taste like? I'm really curious but I'm from America, and people have been saying raw eggs in japan are healthier, so I don't want to get sick by eating a bad egg D:
if you want the same flavor but none of the raw egg, separate the yolk from the white and temper the yolk with a bit of the broth from the sukiyaki, this will cook the yolk slightly so you can still get the flavor and none of the salmonella
did U jus make a rendition of the Trish Thuy Trang song Sukiyaki?!!! (:-O) LMFAO this guy is 22222222 funny runny food looks delish tho keep up the great work runny runny

@bryronify yey balot , respect every1s culture guys! but mind you wherever research conducted, japan is in top 1 of gastric cancer epidemiology, because theyre fond of eating processed foods, but i want to defend this handsome man .. because his so cute and looks like preparing not processed food
It's amazing to me how many people in the US are afraid to eat raw egg, but have no problem licking the spoon of cake batter, or steal small bits of cookie dough when making cookies, then think nothing of it... But it has raw egg in it. XD It's a weird world we live in. Most people over here wouldn't even consider eating any kind of bug. Hi Runny! I made this last night, and managed to buy all the ingredients from the Chinese supermarket near where I live (Leeds, England). The result was excellent - it looked just like yours and tasted excellent.
Your videos are very clear and easy to follow, and I think you are very funny. You should change your name to FunnyFunny!
I could find my usual sukiyaki sauce at Mitsuwa grocery, so I used this video to learn how to make the sauce from scratch. Very easy, and much more delicious than the store bought. I tried to buy lard but nobody around here sold it, so I used some crisco instead - probably not as good as real lard. Thanks for the video!
I like raw eggs and I dont see anzthing wrong with it.It all boils down to keeping an open mind. If a person wants to eat only food his mother cooked (like macaroni with cheese and similar), he is at the wrong address and shouldnt be watching runnys cooking channel. :)
Supposedly, the reason 上を向いて歩こう was called Sukiyaki in English was because it was an easy to remember word. Instead of calling it "Ue o muite arukō" or even "Let's walk looking up", I think they figured people would call it "That Japanese song" anyway, so they chose sukiyaki.
Was it made in Japan? If eggs were not made in Japan, You should not have eaten it as raw eggs. Because eggs in Japan is produced by technical treatment which is enable to eat it as raw. That's why we can eat raw eggs.
Usually natural eggs are contained Salmonella virus. And this virus makes food poisoning.
Yo might already know it. If so, sorry to mention of it.
ah.. i think i saw in iron chef america.. japanese chef knows that american people might not be used to eating raw egg.. so he replaced it with lightly poached egg instead..
Runny Runny~ I really like your cooking ^_^ videos better~because its more realistic compare to some other cooking videos where everything is measured concisely and the ingredients are perfectly cut..soaked blah blah like all those. I think cooking does not have to be perfect just go with what you can do. I love ur recipes I will try them out soon ^_^.
wonder if they have these kinds of mushrooms anywhere by us, here in Israel... (I will be scrapping the lard for obvious reasons but will definitely try this). ;)
That looks good! But there's one thing I always wondered about...
In North America, people usually don't eat raw eggs anymore because they''re afraid of Salmonella poisoning but Japanese people eat raw eggs all the time. Whenever I see videos like this, I always wonder whether or not it's a good idea for me to try a raw egg. lol
Haha u change ur appearance xDD . . Sukiyaki looks delicious i wanna eat it ahahaha xD

A Shirataki has the effect of fixing a meat.
I have understood.
But, if so, why does Sukiyaki cook a meat and a Shirataki in a same pot?
Additionally, you Japanese simmer a meat and a Shirataki together at the dish of Oden, don't you?

Whenever I see videos like this, I always wonder whether or not it's a good idea for me to try a raw egg. lol
