@corganb If you want something more in the direction of the Minimoog, you need to go for the Synthesizers(dot)com Transistor Ladder filter. This filter sounds nothing like the Minimoog, but is very powerful, useful, and sounds great.
Pardon my ignorance, but is it possible to have a cable plugged into both the LP and HP outputs? I've never seen it done, so I'm assuming it's impossible, but I've always wondered.
I didn't use it very much. It seems to be subtle to me, too... I guess I really do not know how to properly apply that one. I think it has effective application, but I don't know how to do it!
Well, I understand notches are useful for eliminating an unpleasant ringing from a recording, but it doesn't seem to have much practical use in synthesis.
Right at 0:50 when he demos the Notch for the first time, I'd say that sweeping it has a nice phasing/flanging kinda sound that would be great for long pads... maybe modded by an LFO that was increasing in frequency over time?
Nice video series. I have a Dot Com system and you've taught me quite a bit about it that I didn't know. BTW, my cat was entranced by this clip. He's currently learning to play the Mellotron :o)
Nice demo, how should a modular synth be connected to a mixer or amp etc. to hear the sound?

How do you feel this filter compares with a MiniMoog filter?

It sounds like when the lowpass gets really low, the highest frequencies start to appear again! Is anyone else getting that?
(my computer has spectacularly bad sound :P)

All outputs are able to be used simultaneously, but you must remember that filter cutoff affects each of them somewhat differently.

isnt that just a band pass?

or notch depending on where they are set*

Hey Gainsay, Is there a way to Email you? It seems like you're the guy to answer some questions I have about DOT.COMs

:o Now I can't decide if I want the State Variable or the Transistor Ladder Filter... :P An easy 5/5, another wonderful AutomaticGainsay video!! :D
uneaseintheair 4 years ago
Thanks! Put simply: State Variable: More functionality Transistor Ladder: Better sound
AutomaticGainsay 4 years ago
Hm... I think I'm going to go with the transistor ladder filter, even though it's about $50 more expensive. Thanks!! :D

Do you use the notch output much? It sounds like it would be too subtle to be fun.

Now that I listen to it again, you're right. Good suggestion. :)

I envy the fact that your cat has a Mellotron to learn on. ;)

I'm glad that some one has made demos for modules i have in my system. these are awesome. thank you!

Hey thanks for the video demonstration. I just bought a Q107 for my dotcom synth to compliment my Q150 ladder filter. They sound quite different.
invalidbuffalo 4 years ago
I like the sound of the Q150 better, but the Q107 is far more powerful and diverse!

Looks like a lot of fun! Takes me back to my Arp2600 days. I really need to dig it out of the closet. Thanks!
