PEOPLE WHO WATCH THIS NEED TO CHECK OUT THE ELEPHANT LADY! elephants do have to be trained beyond horrificly to do this which is very sad as they are so clever and loving.people need to see it to beleive it as i have.the asian elephant is endangered because of the tourist trade.the elephant nature park is worth checking out.
What we can do to help them is never support these entertainment shows that exploit elephants. Please type in "Elephant Lady" and consider sending her some money if you like her video. Also, pass this word onto others watching these videos and elephants will be saved!
Maybe you are right, but what can you and i do ? The meaning of this film was to show people that elephants have emotions and are smart. I hope that this film wakes more sympathy for these nice animals.... We (smart) humans have cut down their living areas.......We must do something fast.....
Those elephants AREN'T painting on their own. They were trained to put the brush exactly where the trainer told them to.They're smart enough to understand many commands. The filmmaker was real careful to have the trainers conceal their bullhooks, a stick with a sharp metal hook on the end.The trainers stick these hooks under their feet , in their heads ,even in their EARS.They are tortured and psychologically broken into performing for humans! This video is just PR whitewash for the public!
I am sure the elephant would prefer to be roaming free on the plains than standing in the blazing sun painting flowers so some tourist could show their kids what an elephant painted in Thailand. I heard from a reliable source that they paint or they don't eat.
watch the video on youtube where a female elephant paints an image of other elephants holding a flower in their trunk. this is amazing yes, but when i watched an elephant paint another elephant i just could not believe my eyes.
it's like, "if I didn't see it with my own eyes..."
Great vid but I wish you had caught a screen shot of the face and eyes. I'm always amazed at how much intelligence and emotion and TRUTHFULNESS non-human sentients express.
A bit off topic, but if you ever get a chance, see the movie "The Story of the Weeping Camel". You may be able to back order from your library.
This is amazing to see how self-aware animals really are. This proves that they have emotions just like we do. And I really doubt these elephants care about money (Sheiky06). As long as they are treated well, it seems as though they really enjoy painting. It's not like they're forced to do it.
We must stop Thailand from exploiting these poor elephants and selling their artwork on Ebay! That is just wrong! The elephants see none of that money!
well i elephants are really expensive in Thailand.. and they are GOD there, so i dont think they can be treat wrong there. its such an amazing video, i think i'm going to go learn how to paint now...
I have to laugh at some of the people who are totally convinced that the elephants are taking "cues" from their trainers. Maybe they are, but yet again, maybe not. Is it so hard, or scary, to admit that animals OTHER than humans are intelligent and think in complex ways? What I'm wondering is why no one ever tries to create some sort of language with elephants. I really believe that they are capable of so much more. Who knows? We could have another Koko (the gorilla) on our hands!!!
In this simple and touching display the arrogance of man is depicted in all it's enormity, yet so is the profound connection between all of life. My eyes are filled with tears.
Death or slavery? Well, we idians never really had a choice. We were both put into slavery, as well as killed. And we are viewed as the bad people.
If i had a choice, i would choice death. Cause then i could be reincarnated and curse the son-of-a-bitch that killed me. It's fun to put a curse on people.
I wonder if i could curse people while in limbo- before i'm reincarnated...
cause that would be so cool. Better watch what you do, cause even death can't hold me back!!!
Actually candyann22, some elephants actually do like to paint. Yeah, a lot of people like to try to make them do it for entertainment, but as some humans do, there are elephants who love to paint for their own enjoyment.
If an elephant has the ability to understand the concept of a complete picture, how much of their understanding and ability for comprehemption can we ever hope to accept? This is scary from the elephants point of view. How can anyone think the elephants were "taught" to paint a whole idea? It has to be something they innately understand. Whats next?
Those are really amazing! Even if the elephants are trained or are taking cues from a handler, the fact that it is the elephant doing that with such dexterity and accuracy which truly amazes me! My science teacher at school has an abstract painting done by an elephant in a local zoo. It's very pretty!
This is so moving and lovely. I don't know what the rest of the animals' day is like, but I'll bet it beats being in any form of a circus. If these are indeed rescued animals then they lucky to be where they are. They seem to have a relatively pleasant and protected life and this is what the handlers have trained them to do to help buy their food. What they can do is amazing and I'm glad someone figured a way to show them how to paint like that. Unbelievable!
Very interesting. But I suspect that either the animals are essentially tortured into doing these tricks correctly to make money for thier owners or this is a camera/video editing trick. I doubt wild elephants go around painting pictures or that multiple elephants would take up the practise as a hobby.
Not necessarily torture. The owners obviously keep a good share of the profits. The rest is probably used to feed the elephants.
Then again, isn't that what our society thrives on? A boss sitting there, making money off our efforts, while they give back only a little of what we deserve. Heck, youtube does nothing but sit back. And the directors and viewers get youtube a big check.
check it = these elephants are not wild. if you read they use the brushes and brush strokes carefully enough it becomes clear there is at least some intentionality to their dexterity.
hard to imagine pain resulting in this kind of sensitivity though some training obviously is involved
Have you been in this elephantcamp ? I lived in Chiang Mai for three months and visited this camp almost every day.Trust me , elephants are treated well there.
Poster of this video got wrong idea of elephants painting, Usually those elephants come from bad areas where they is abused etc. So, those ppl is saving elephants.
well i think the elephants were trained/taught to do that, and id like to see an elephant paint like that without the handler nearby. i have my suspicions that theyre taking cues from their handlers. but on the other hand, i dont think this is anything cruel like the circus and its pretty cool to see an elephant paint.
I don't know about anyone else but it seems to me these elephants are having fun. We could say that mankind belongs in the wild, too. Let's all just go back to the trees.
How about inherent evil. It's in everyone. It's amazing how we can kill and destroy, while these elephants are the more perfect version of us. Our only apparent connection is the love of art from what i see.
let them have a life and put them where they belong!!! they have an amazing talet and are smart so let them live the life they were suppost to in the wild!!
I bet poachers would kill them the minute they are released to the wild. So carefully think about that. Theyre pretty safe here. Dont be all hippie and not thinking about the consequences
the reason they were taken out of the wild was because those exact animals were mistreated by humans and hunted. besides, they wouldn't fucking paint in the wild.
how is that place horrible? they feed the elephants and take care of them, if they were in the wild they could be hunted by people or killed by other animals... unless they train and torcher the elephants to paint like that i guess...
whoever told u this place is horrible is retarded. not only do they feed the animals and take care of them, but the reason they make the paintings and sell them is to keep this reserve open most likely. besides these elephants are post-hardship.
