  • You are grate :)

  • What was the name of that piece you performed?? Absolutely brilliant! You are amazing! I just bought my first flute and will eagerly be using your videos as the best guidance for me. Thank you for making sure great videos!!

  • I always like to ask this question..Do you like concert band or Marching band(if you ever been in it :)

  • @queenbeeheather CONCERT band!

  • @ninaflute I can't pick between, I love both so much!! Thx for the input

  • thank you

  • Nina, I'm thinking of auditinoing for a semi-professional band. One of the requirements for the band is to prepare a piece that's at least a Level 4. I pulled out one of my old audition pieces from high school states. It it Gabriel Faure's Fantase. I never learned it to my satisfaction. I think a lot of these tips could help me. I think I started practicing the piece too fast. Your tip about sixteenth note = 72 I think could really help me.

  • i love flutes sooooooooo muchhhhhhhh i play but your fantastic

  • You guys should check Serge Mikel , I'm from Japan , but what a surprise , in nyc!!!

  • i just bought a gemeinheadt 3sh-how are those

  • gemeinhardt and brio flutes are made in the same factory

  • 3 a gemeinhardt 3sh are very good for intermidiate or intermidiate heading to pro

  • GMEA is hard.. That's pretty cool!

  • gah well performed.

but these are SO easy compared to our texas TMEA ones. geez.

  • im in band and in band ill be playing the flute until college with instruction. im in middle school right now and i cannot wait until my fingers are trained enough to go that fast without having to take in too much air like HUUUUH when you just barely do hu im not saying thats the sound just i cant describe it in words

  • hi nina

I was wondering if you could make a video for this years Ky all state 2008 audition.

I am so excited yet need some help

It would be wonderful if you could make one.

    thanx

    Gibzy

  • Nina, you're amazing. A very valuable resource. I was playing devil's advocate seeing if you could handle a cheap student flute. I once played a bad flute on stage, which also had Coca Cola spilled all over it (accidentally). All the keys stuck. I played an improvised jazz piece which got an amazing reaction from the crowd (it happens, sometimes). Also thinking of Charlie Parker who played bad instruments with astounding flair. I still agree, make sure the instrument is well adjusted. But .

  • when i begin the first note into a song or scale, it sounds like i'm spitting, but i'm not, how do you deal with it? I really need help, and also, when i toungue, it seems to loud, PLEASE HELP ME NINA!!!!!

  • wow thank you so much

  • holy crap ur good

  • Dear Nina, Thank you.

  • Yeah, my McAnless you see me playing in my one and only vid (as of yet) was about 10g after an additional headjoint. It came with one with nice dark sound, and the one I bought is brighter and perfect for jazz.

    Great videos Ms. Perlove!

In reply to the working condition comment, I did an audition (out here in So Cal) where the night before I set my flute down slightly wrong and disabled the last half :( I was stuck with a flute that couldn't do low c, bad for the Image :D

  • what is the difference between a flute played in high school and a proffesional one

  • dear ihateu20:

    about $10,000.

but seriously, a pro flute is typically made of solid silver head, body and keys, is fully handmade, and may have soldered toneholes.

  • Yeah, my McAnless was 10G after an additional headjoint that's perfect for jazz. It came with a (i think) Louis cut, something like that, that gets a nice warm dark tone that's perfect for german type music, but the one I have on in my one and only video (as of yet) is a brighter, jazzy type of tone.

    Great videos Ms. Perlove!

  • Even though I am still a beginner I own a professional flute. It was a hand me down from my Aunt. It is solid silver, handmade, open holes, and B key. That's really all I know of. But when my aunt bought it, it was only $3000. What else is there??? I also have a gold flute with all the same features. What is the difference between a beginner flute and a professional flute??? Tone wise.

  • i dont live in kentucky but this has taught me a valuable lesson. i never thought that playing it slow would help me or playing something that slow would. sweet!!!! :)

  • Nina I called up local music store here in Michigan got lucky girl who answered phone is flutist and even teaches she told me to bring in my ebay emerson flute. She will look at it. And she says I can rent one from them for 25 a month and it will all go towards a new flute! her first lesson is free! Thank you your so kind!

  • Nina you play so beautifully. I can make the sound "B" Im a beginner. But I cannot get "A" Im so frustated. I have a beginner book. I dont know if it is me or what. It is used. Im stuck on "A" if I can't make the sound "A" come out of my flute I cant go on can this be? what do you think I should do? Any advice for me? Im a flute lover for many years thank you

  • make sure you have the correct fingering. Are you playing an open hole flute? If so, make sure the holes are ENTIRELY covered. Start on B then just add the finger to play the A. If it still does not work, you may need flute repair!

  • I wish I would have found this video in October when I was preparing to audition for regionals! I might have made regionals if I did, but then again I had only 3 months of private instruction under my belt at the time. I will remember this for this year's adutions.

  • Thank you Nina I have tried and tried it must be the flute. No it is a closed hole flute. I think there is a flute teacher here in town I can take it to. This is an old flute I hate to spend money on it. Im thinking of just buying a new flute. I got this thing off of ebay I really shouldnt have. I paid sixty dollars for it. At least it gave me this idea if I like to play the flute and I do. My next flute I wont buy off of ebay any ideas?

  • good advice, will use for allstate and all county next year, even though i live in florida.

  • You look as Enya...

    xD

  • Oh thank goodness for this video! I'm totally starting to sound better! Thanks so much!

  • Hi Nina,

I love your lessons verry much. I´m just a beginner in playing (boehm)flute and you gave me back my hope to learn this wonderful stuff. I thought players like you get this right from the paper, always keeping in right tempo and time... I just owned my flue six weeks ago and worked hard (and slow) to play some songs for my kids under the christmastree. Hopefully in some yeasrs my kids play for me. So long, thanks to you (Germany/Jan.2008)

  • There was 1100 people trying out at John Hardin.

    Damn.

  • Oh my gosh I can't believe this audition is tommorrow I'm a nervous wreck.

  • Stay calm! Let your preparation show.

  • Haha. No need to feel that way anymore. You made 3rd chair! : D

  • hey i was flute #18. I butchered that peice so badly. ha...thank you for not laughing. will you be judging all-district?

  • Slowly.. slowly... I love you Nina!!!!!! XD

  • Hi

I'm hearing you from France and I love this music and the way you are playing it.

I would like to play this piece for myself

(so many aspects of flute music in this short piece !) but this music is not available for buying, is it? What can I do ?

    Thanks

  • Why not a Ravel, Satie, Fauré, or Debussy piece?

Those are real composers and easy to get in France, I'm sure.

You know flutists are allowed to play from piano or violin scores not just what everyone else is playing.

Pavane by Fauré is perfect for flute.

  • I am so appreciative of this video. Thank you so much.

  • Hi:

Repetition of SLOWLY makes me smile.

Great job (the problem is that i understood like 25% 'cuase i don't speak english)

    :)

  • I love your playing.

Nickel flute bodies speak easier in the higher register, but I prefer a more "resistant" body...
