Looks like a prototype design for a redesign Miranda Class---then Starfleet got a hold of the new technology and THAT design lead to the Miranda Class (Refit) design. Great work!
Wow! That's beautiful! Very nice look...although I could have done without the roll bar. That just seems to me like something that would be added, as if they were refit in something similar to the way the Constitution class was refit.
Viewed upside-down, you can see that this design is not much different than the generic starship design, except that the nacelle pylons extend thru the saucer section.
The "Copernicus" (that's the ship in the test anim) was designed by Jeff Hayes as a TOS-era version of the Miranda class, as invisible 1982 pointed out. Jeff did a fantastic job! "Blood and Fire" is well into post-production. Part One should be released at or near the end of summer. Stay tuned! - Joel
Yep. The original concept for the Ent was exactly what we've always seen, but flipped over. Gene Roddenberry looked at that original concept and decided to flip it for the actual show. However, that didn't inspire this design. (cont)
Thanks for all the feedback - both positive and negative - everyone. Basically, if you're talking about my stuff, even if it's to criticize, I'm happy :) Something that may be of interest, particularly to you, wwazman, is that what we know as the TOS Enterprise is actually upside-down from the original design. (cont)

The deflector dish and nacelle caps are Daren's. The nacelle tubes and the forward half of the saucer section are from the DAVE School model of the Enterprise used in "World Enough and Time". I modeled the rest and re-textured the entire ship, then lit and animated this test render. - Joel
I think that the best TOS Enterprise to be seen on television was the one half model/ half CGI on the DS9 episode "Trials and Tribulations." Paramount hasn't given the TOS era justice since then, but the creators of this TOS Miranda class starship certainly have. This is absolutely amazing.
At the moment, the only place to see them is in the current New Voyages emagazine (issue #3), which is a free download. I tried pasting the link to it, but looks like YouTube doesn't allow that. So, just go to Google and run a search on "star trek new voyages emagazine issue 3" and it'll bring up the page where you can download the magazine in PDF format. The schematics can be seen on page 25.
Thanks! I'm kind of hot and cold on TOS Remastered. Sometimes, the Enterprise looks plasticy, and other times it looks just right. Lighting is a tricky thing. I thought most of the shots in "The Menagerie" looked pretty awesome, particularly the fly-in to the bridge dome. Fantastic!
Yep. Obviously, there are some structural differences between this Miranda class and the movie-era one, but that's intentional. We wanted it to look very much a part of the TOS era.
It looks great. One minor change I might suggest is to have the "glow" at the back of the nacelles flicker or waver or something to make the image look less static.
Thanks for the suggestion. Since those parts of the nacelles didn't flicker in the original series, I don't think I could get away with doing that. However, if a ship were damaged, then having that glowing part flicker might be a way to help convey that it's damaged, so I'll definitely keep your suggestion in mind.
LOL! Yep, we can have some serious slide-across-the-screen action and grain so thick you could cut it with a knife. It'd actually be a good learning exercise to fully replicate the 60's f/x look. Not gonna happen with this episode, though ;)

It's an interesting design, but I have to wonder if putting the deflector dish right above the bridge, and behind it is a good idea.

Pretty good but pylons are supposed to be connected to the drive section. Not the saucer section.

That is cool looking starship!!! :-) I really liked it.

Personally I would have thought the shuttle bay should be on the back of the extended saucer section but it's still cool.

@mancat999 it reminds me of the refit NX class from the non cannon sources

Nice, though I think Mirandas were not around till after the V'ger incident.

Thanks again for all the comments. The first part of "Blood and Fire" will be released on December 20th, so you'll see lots more of the ship then.

I always wanted to see this design. I'm a Miranda fan!
Meant to kit bash it, but never got round to it. Well done on a great job. it really is authentic, Pass my regards on to Jeff Hayes too.
Great work.

Looks like someone took the engineering section, turned it upside down, then jammed it onto the back. O.o

that bit on top of the ship looks an awful lot like the lower half of the enterprise...

well, the origional miranda design was flipped upside down after the director gave the ok on the design while looking at it upside down.
