  • Drummer's doing a great job of playing like Porcaro!

  • How come the song appears stuffed up? Where Vanili Milli?

  • 80's fashions sure did suck...

Great song though. Brings back old memories.

  • Scaggs just couldn't hear or something...the song is correct...starts out in F and mods to G for the opening vocal. Seems like everyone always wants to blame musicians and spare the 'star" I love Boz btw but age takes it's toll on most singer's voices...and he's no exception.

  • bass starting off in the wrong key.....boz turns and looks wtf ...over

  • He kind of resembles Paul Gleason from The Breakfast Club.

  • Boz looks like a cross between Tim Allen and a puppet.

  • Boz Scaggs what a performer. Great song. Love it.

  • Love this song! Brings back lotsa memories. My older brother and sisters heavily influenced me with the music they listened to back in the '70's and this was one of their favorites. It's just as great a song as it was then. Thanks for posting!

  • Damn, they sound great live!

  • This is a fun video to watch. Aside from them all obviously freezing, they pull it together so nice & tight. Kinda love the parts where he messes up at the beginning and again towards the end, yet brings it all back together so smoothly. Shows how much of a true professional he is. Love him. Thanks for sharing this.

  • it was a pretty chilly day..February 85'..Winter, I'd say in the 40's..and it started raining later on that day..you can see everyone in the audience was dressed warmly..that's Kevin Dukes on guitar..

  • @MrAdrianTapia Thank you! I was going to ask that next (who was on guitar). Do you still keep in touch with any of the band members, like Boz?

  • That was a memorable tour-Expo'85..I played sax(Adrian Tapia);John Madrid(trpt);the great Carlos Vega on drums;Reggie Mc Bride(bass)-now with Keb Mo.

Maxine Waters and Venneta Fields on vocals;Scott Plunkett(keyboards)..I also recorded the sax solos on 'JOJO'..what an awsome audience--JAPAN!..my heart goes out to them all in light of the big 8.9 earthquake..God bless them all!

  • @MrAdrianTapia how cold was it there?

  • Billy Dee Williams on bass? :)

  • Those japanese woman are beatifull? always wanted one.

    Tired of these American woman.

Looks to be below freezing..... See the steam coming from the Bozz's mouth...

  • that was baddass

  • Holy shit, that looks like Lando Calrissian on bass *LOL*

  • @TheZerothDegree true true - now everytime I watch this video and I see him I think of Lando - thanks! ;)

  • Good old rock'n tune from Boz.

  • Great clip of a great band, they are totally rock solid and every bass player in the world should look just like this feller (a muscular black guy just groovin' away beneath everything else). So what if the main man screws up at the beginning,he pulls it all back together and the band play on regardless.Real pro's.

  • band & bass player is spot on, Boz totally blew the key,,, it looks to me like he didn't have his vocals in his monitor & was lost,,,, i think he was looking over at the soundguy, going WTF ???

but he recovered,,, ahhhh live music

  • Havin lots of fun in Japan:)

  • LOL....the best part of the video is the very beginning. He's completely out of tune the first line (at that point I was thinking "Oh my god, this guy can't even carry the tune!") - He then looks off to his right with a very confused look - just "says" the next line - then is able to get in-sync and nail the song starting from the third line. Very cool!

  • Is he saying "one more job gonna do it one more john nothing to it"? & we know what Boz did with the "toe the line or blow it and that was all she wrote" But to think I spent my childhood listening to a song about a male prostitue, say it's not so, it's like Mardi Gras when I was 5 all over again!

  • Yup, bass started in Bb instead of G -- Boz looked back like "What the #$%?" The only thing funnier is the guy sleeping at 4:06 LOL

  • @artdrtr2 That's amazing that you can tell that by listening! I'm a dance choreographer & rely on music for my livlihood, but I couldn't tell you what note that was to save my life!

  • just me, or does boz look tanked?

  • This sure looks like an 'early morning gig' . Like he just been shipped over night. Completely jetlagged.. "Key!! Key!! What' s the effin key??! ! Boz rocks!

  • 4:07 ...dudes been doin' smack and is on the nod.

  • He started in the wrong key! Ha! I've got videos of him forgetting the lyrics to this song also. Other than Porcaro, only 3 other drummers could do this groove justice - Steve Gadd, Jim Keltner and absolutely Carlos Vega. Although, I bet Larrie London could have played the shit out of it too.

  • @stopherlong72 - I think the bass started wrong, but i could be wrong! LOl

  • Great tune!!!

  • great stuff don't hear this kind of music anymore

  • good stuff !

  • Him and Tim Allen look like brothers...you know that guy from Home Improvement tv show. This song is unbelievable I always thought Van Morrison did it.

  • Man what do u say freezing temps and still they rip real musos gone but not forgotten thx u tb

  • the horns did a great job in that freezing weather too.......Boz loves this song...he just did it a bit different every time, given his backups were forever changing...he was the guy running the show....

  • This guy was playing in sub-zero weather. He is such a pro that he sounded like he was in a studio. Top rate performer. Brought a new genre of jazz fused with rock, blues and pop, in the mid 70's!

  • 2:45 is one of the best drum fills ever! So was the ending. Carlos Vega (like Jeff Porcaro) was a godsend; Boz had 2 of the best drummers in history, and some of the best musicians backing him up, too. How blessed was he! Plus, it was probably 30 degrees F. there in Japan (if not colder) and they STILL rocked. Boz mixes it up a little on Lido, but he's probably played that song thousands of times, so he's allowed to rewrite it on the spot! He's one of the greatest singers/songwriters ever!

  • Carlos Vega died too I believe. suicide?

  • yeah sadly

  • I know it was 20 years ago, but...... why could they never get this song right in performance? It's one of my favorite songs by him, but each live version I've seen on youtube has always been, oh yes, fun and lively, but out of tune and messed up. Did Boz actually hate this song, or was it just one he didn't work on as much, or was it like "Dead Man's Party" where the studio version had much more to it than could ever come out in live performance?

  • I think the guy in the audience holding the sign reading "Remember Pearl Harbor" may have distracted him! Just joking. I think it is like when Billy Joel messes up a song, after playing it sooo many times they get bored with it and loose there place. And to irishxy comment, Porcaro And Vega are two of my favorites!!! Very good comment!

  • Bobby Darin had the same sense of when he fucked up...and said so right away, even on live TV!!.....gotta love guys like Boz and Bobby Darin......they own the stage!

  • boz was the man.......he maintained his shtick for another 2o years......

  • Yeah no doubt ol Boz made a few blunders,,best thing is,i bet there wasnt a jap that realised it,,,Pete

  • Carlos Vega on drums... God Bless you 'los...RIP.

  • rest in pieces...

  • @tomkatf yes sir , Carlos Vega was brilliant. I used to see him when i was a kid at a place called the baked potato in L.A. and i was always completely blown away by his drumset playing. RiP

  • True professional !! The best 5 *****

  • I love the little mistake at the beginning --- proves even great performers are human :-). I had to listen to this several times to figure out whether it was the bass, or Boz --- it was Boz, coming in a half-step flat, but he just goes right on and "fixes" it pretty quickly. I'll bet they all had a good laugh about that after the show :-)!

  • Yeah, I had a good laugh as well about that little mistake and again-just like in the "Porcaro" rendition- at around 3.45 and 4.00 the band plays their version and Boz again manages to stay in the song and all finish together. Swinging rendition, fun to watch and listen.

  • It was Boz, he knew it and gave the "o crap" look at everyone then fixed it. Its hard when its 30 degrees to start on key.

  • Great preformer.Grew up listening to this stuff im 40 now and still love it as if I heard it for the first time!

  • Is Boz big in Japan?

  • yeah, that suprises me too.

  • Anyone over 5' 6" is.....

  • Made me laugh dude,,Pete

  • Nope: At the start of Lido, it was Boz. realizing his voice was out of whack, and it was his way of letting them know, it was his fault.....which he corrected immediately. trust me on this. Boz is tht kind of performer, who protected his people, unafraid to take blame for his own mistakes...

  • great vid

  • "Uh oh" is right. The musicians were off key and Boz heard it at :18/:19 - he looked over at them and realized he shouldn't sing it - he shouted the next line(s)...they finally got it together. Love that BOZ!

  • now i can't tell if it was Boz or the band...something wasn't right...

  • All ladies love Boz, he is an equal opportunity fox!

  • Hurdygurdy,,I agree! EVERYONE LOVED BOZ

STILL DO!!! He's just brilliant! I can't get enough of BOZ!!

  • I definitely would have made a move on him 30 years ago, (if I was old enough)!

  • why in the world are you juvenile dopes even bringing race into discussing a great musician and his great music? just enjoy it, pass it on, and go from there....I just turned my son 19 year old son on to Boz .....he loves his stuff.....

  • So...white boy is popular in Asia. For those who don't like that, you have a choice. You can bash him on you tube, or you can tour Asia with your own music. Well...?

  • Is race a real problem here? Okay. Yes. A pocket of Asians dig a white guy. I guess that is borderline heresy.

  • what nationality is scaggs? Does he have any children?

  • White boy American, born in Canton, Ohio.

  • What the fuck do you mean by "white boy", you fucking racist?

  • He has at least two kids, one died from a heroin overdose at age 21.

  • 3:32 - did he forget the form or is this extemporaneous adlibbing? I wonder...

  • Ah, never mind, they are tagging the ending. Should have listened further.

  • Decent performance. Forgotten lyrics, no Jeff Porcaro, and the trumpet bends kinda hurt; definitely could have used a little edge on the tempo

  • Well, it might not be Jeff, but that's Carlos Vega on drums...another bright flame extinguished too early. The trumpet bends are due to the fact that it looks like it's frigid on that stage...kind of hard to keep metal in tune in that weather.

  • The Japs really dig the Boz!

  • "Japanese" cracker!

  • What's a "Japanese cracker"? Are they next to the Ritz crackers in the store?

  • Fuck you, you fucking racist mother fucker.

  • Fuck you, you fucking cracker!

  • Hey, marenas51. You need to find a life. Boz is fucking Japanese women while you sit at home jerking whatetever. Maybe you should learn how to play a musical instrument so you too can get laid.

  • Why do you think that is, exactly?? I mean, I dig the "Boz man" as much as the next guy....but this whole Far Eastern nation apparently WORSHIPS the dude. Is this a "France/Jerry Lewis" deal?? Just wondering..;-)

  • Yeah, you got a point there. All I know is he goes there alot and they seem to really dig him over there.

  • thks for posting-this is simply amazing.

Good to see these old performances.

  • Great stuff! Thanks for posting this--it's great to see more variations and performances of Boz's hits.

  • Thanks for sharing!
