When someone asks you what religion you are don't say I am an atheist, as that would imply atheism is a religion. Atheism is　a lack of belief in god, so rather answer in this way "I have no religion(or I am non-religious) and I am an atheist, which just means that up to this day I have not seen convincing evidence for the existence of a god" This would be a much more accurate way to represent atheism to those non familiar with it (the majority of not only the USA but the world), glad you're out.

The truth is hard to take and that's why so many belivers don't like it. Their priests, mullahs, rabbis, and pontifs don't like it. The truth burns their hearts - poor things. The atheist on the other hand seek truth willingly and embrace it even if they don't like what they see.

Believers are adults that can't grow so they stignate and get all poisonous.

The more atheists the more the illusions fall apart.

Religion isn't a belief in a higher being, that's what a deist is. Religion is faith, and faith is believing in something for which there is no evidence. Atheism fits in this just as well as every other religion. The only 'mainstream religion' that might not qualify is agnosticism.

Put simply, you rule! My Dad was a beatnick, so I never had the "pleasure" of being indoctrinated into a religious belief system (lucky me)! Sure we read Philosophy, understood the teachings of Aristotle, Conficious and Budda, and Christ et al, but as for the supernatural stuff . . . never had to know it as anything other than pure garbage. It must be much more difficult for an atheist living in a predominantly religious country. Here in the U.K., most people are atheist, and the number of people believing in a god has been in rapid decline since the 50's. I can't really imagine being considered strange just for being rational, so my heart goes out to you and others in your position. Keep fighting the war on ignorance and stupidity!

For me, one of the greatest unanswered questions is, "What might the music of an alien culture be like?" Then I get into all kinds of other quesions, such as, "Do they have ears, how many fingers do you really have to have to play something like piano, etc?" May sound silly on the surface, but it isn't.

Exomusicology... interesting, but isn't the first question you have to ask; "Would an alien society even have music?" Depending on the ecosystem they evolved in, sound might not even be a useful evolutionary development. I can't remember who said it but I agree that aliens may be far stranger than we could ever imagine. We may not even recognise them as being living things! First contact is going to be a real shock!

Just a thought or two from someone who is struggling to master the piano.
