It was mass hysteria against communism in America that fueled most of the cold war, the USSR reacted to it in a bad way.

Both sides were to blame, the USSR had a fear of capitalism fueled by insane propaganda, and the USA had a fear of communism fueled by insane propaganda, but American documentaries pretend they were fighting for freedom and liberty against a cruel regime, when really, the rich wanted to stay rich in America. They were afraid communism would take their wealth.
