Nina -- would you happen to have any comments for maintaining full tone throughout the piece? I've been practicing it very slowly, and it sounds lovely when I played it in half time or so, but when I speed it up I feel like it comes out too breathy.
I really love your small variations on the piece, by the way -- the small trill or grace note here and there adds a lot of flavor.

People tell me that I play well for a high school flautist. When I heard this, I now tell them that they haven´t heard a professional play. You are amazing.
Honestly, very good technique and sound, although the way you play the Telemann is not my cup of tea.
As for real flute - well, IMO, in live situations it's often quite unimportant whether you slipped here or there - performance is everything! If you captivate your audiance, they'll forgive you such things.
some one who understands the pie eating society of baroque society of baroque rich people eating pie and playing the flute out disdain for their inability to explain the reasons why the world keeps on turning.

Nina, I love your nuances! I played this for one of my Juries during my master's and no matter how hard I tried I could just never get my nuances to sound organic. Bravo!

WOW. You are amazing. I'm familliar with Telemann's style... (I've played his viola concerto) but I really had no idea that he wrote anything for woodwind. But hey.. you learn something new everyday! haha.. but anyways... nice video. :D
And I loved the Tempo contrast you pushed into the song. This is a song I love to play, but just like all of Telemann's fantasies... so much is left to the interpretation of the flutist. Wonderfuly wonderful performance.
Nina, you are wonderfull. I know this music since i was 12, rearing in the doce flute. I reard it with Rampal, very fast, like a machine gun. I play this music too, but im G, and not with your brigthness. I like so much your interpretation, original. Put more vídeos, please. I am your fan.

Wonderful playing. A real inspiration. Thanks for posting your videos. I like the idea of getting more classical musicians on here. I thought I'd start contributing too. :)
I'm learning to play the flute. You're a great inspiration. You seem to have the right spirit of musicianship, sharing and so on. I try to record myself, but get clumsy for fear of making blunders!
you have such an amazing sound. I hope one day, I get to sound like that. Everything I've learned, I learned myself. I took a few lessons but they werent as often as I would've liked them to be. I never had the time. Congrats on being in the top 100. That's great!
wow. you are amazing. i am a sophmore, played the flute for 5 and a half years...and plan on continuing it. i absolutly LOVE playing the flute. do you have any advice?
Besides practicing a lot... :) Make sure you have the BEST possible teacher, and don't try to play repertoire that is too difficult. Work on sound sound sound, and learn to control vibrato. Good luck.
Hey, great job - great interpretation, tone, phrasing, execution - everything's fantastic! And congrats on being in the top 100. I ask the same question you do, though - why not more serious classical folks on here?
Let's try and recruit as many "serious" classical musicians as we can. I think there is the potential for a new audience -- the world is changing and we have to get out of our concert hall mentality! Thanks for the comments.
Oh by the way, I saw in your profile comment section that you were posting a message to get a classical musician into the top 20, well I was #6 All-Time subscribed last month, now i'm #21 all-time with almost 3300 subscribers, not too many other serious classical musicians respond to me though
WOW!!!! That is amazing and I am impressed that a classical musician is up there. I think youtube may be revealing a new audience for classical music, especially among a group who are not themselves classically trained. I am surprised how few serious classical musicians are on youtube. Check out the user Violinmasterclass (I posted those videos for an organization I used to run).
Yes, I am a college teacher and freelance performer and I'm getting hooked on youtube performing--I call these video jam sessions. Check out my channel and my statement on REAL FLUTE. I'm uploading more videos as we "speak." This week I was the top #48 for subscribers and I noticed I was the only classical musician in the top #100. I'm very impressed by your playing and your keen marketing sense!
Hey nice, that sounds very good! I'm collaborating with a few top YouTube musicians right now, let me know if you want to do a flute/piano collaboration, if you want an idea on how that would work, check out my Rach 2 where I collaborate with myself haha i'll go check out your statement now
This is lovely. What kind of microphone do you use, Nina? Do you have a stereo digital microphone plugged into your camera or just the camera microphone?
I used a Sony ECM-MS957 microphone for this recording and the b-minor Fantasie. The first recording I made (the a-minor Fantasie) I just used the camera's mic and there is a loud hum, so I learned I needed to plug in a better mic. I have no idea if Sony still makes the ECM-MS957-I bought this one years ago-but I am sure they have an equivalent product.

I am smirking because I didn't sense the bach hammering up front , which I learned from playing Violin Concerto in A minor on my ibanez electric.
While you get the luxury of reading it from papper we poor folk have to do it all by ear.
I sense the piece moves in 1-3-5 alot
Your articulation isn't flawless but who's isn't.
Again my compliments for a job well done.

I'm SO glad I found this! I also checked out your video for vibrato and sound production.
It helped a ton! This song is a bit intimidating for a 15 year old but I hope to 'master' it within these 8 months!
Thank you for taking the time to make the lesson videos and such. Great help!

Hey wow, is this a college professor and great flutist posting a video response to my top 10?? Thanks Nina for your submission!
