  • I have Dicky Maegle's card!

  • @TennesseeTitans4Life -- Cool.....How did that happen?

Do you "still" have it from back-in-the-day, or did you pick it up on eBay or something?

  • @larchmontmark No I went to a pawn shop a couple years ago and they were selling a shoebox full of football cards for like 2 dollars. I bought it and I found this really old card from 1958 and it was Dicky Maegle when he played for the 49ers. Those cards in that shoebox were worth about 50 dollars not 2 so it was a huge bargain.

  • @TennesseeTitans4Life -- I had that card back in the day!

I remember that when I got it, I was amazed he was still around. Not that I thought he was old or anything like that, just that I only knew him from a TV thing of great plays from the past, which included this play from that Cotton Bowl together with old-old stuff like about Red Grange. For all I knew, Moegle was just a "legend" from the past. I was thrilled he was still playing. I think he was the only guy from that show who was.

  • Free beer and hotwings was wright.

  • History repeats. Tommy Lewis was backfield coach at Gadsden High (Alabama) in 1960. Playing Sidney Lanier (Montgomery) in 1960 his star running back came off the bench to tackle a Lanier back who had broken free at the 50 yard line. Automatic TD. Game ended 13-7. Only defeat for Gadsden. Cost them the state championship. (Bulldog Connor)

  • pwned!!!lol

  • Uncle Tony

  • PTI

  • What is the tune playing in the background?

  • @PerryThePlatypoos -- "Dixie"

In the past it was an "old standard" that everybody knew. I imagine that in the South it still is.

  • @larchmontmark Thanks!

  • I think Maegle's coach imitation is going to be my new ringtone...lol

  • @0cujo0 -- Yeah -- he showed some real talent there. :haha:

BTW, if anyone wants to look up stuff about him: his name is usually spelled "MOEGLE."

  • @larchmontmark It was spelled "Moegle" at the time but he later changed it so it would be spelled the way it was pronounced: "Maegle".

  • @carlmoore19 -- Yes, I just learned that!

But it's important to know that it was "Moegle" for his entire playing career, and that's the spelling that most people know him by, and the spelling that most people would check under for things like this.

And maybe most importantly, "Moegle" is what's on all his Topps cards. :-)

  • The referees should have viciously ass-raped Tommy Lewis for his pussy play!

  • RTR

  • faggets like that dont deserve to play the game

  • Instead of a 15 yard penalty from the spot of the tackle and throwing that player out of the game, the refs DECIDED to give them the TD.....interesting......and I agree with the call. No way would today's generation of refs make the same call though.

  • @colderbeer surprisingly there is a rule against that type of action in place where the ref can award the team a TD or make the other team forfeit the game

  • @football2008 That's good to know. Interesting how a Jets strength coach tripped a Dolphins player today. It was definitely a wrong thing to do, but the player was running up the sidelines for quite a bit out of bounds....If I were the NFL, I'd give the Jets a warning and not a fine. My point being this: if you run up and down sidelines while your out of bounds, and there will be plenty of more odd collisions to come....(get your butt back on the field...lol)

  • @colderbeer i think they need to extend the boundry were the coaches and players stand and make the farther from the feild i think the should be like 5 yards out of bounds. rember in the super bowl when it looked like larry fitzgerold could have cought james harrison but he ran in to a player standing on the sidline

  • @colderbeer I agree man with you 100% lol

  • @football2008 I honestly think that Dolphins player took a dive. He got nicked by a guy's knee! He wasn't bumped, slammed, grabbed, hit or tackled. The media goes bonkers over (by the way, I'm a life-long Redskins fan) this Jets coach as if he ran onto the field and kicked a player in the face! Oh, and then it was just exposed that a player that same weekend in the Panthers game came off the bench and ran over and truly hit an opposing player upside the head, and he only was fined $15,000. Huh?

  • Simmons FTW!!

  • sports guy

  • I think it is funny that Bill Simmons was talking about this because I always wondered if anyone would try this. I guess the rule is that "IF THE REF SEES IT" you get an automatic TD. What would happen if the ref didn't see it though?

  • simmons

  • I think it's pretty clear at 0:44 that number 33 would have caught him maybe 5-10 yards later.

  • I heard about this play a long time ago, but I never knew that film existed of it. Very cool!

  • Simmons.

  • Simmons

  • He referenced it in his mailbag: an interference rule far less known than those in baseball. If a tackle is made by someone not actually among the lined up eleven players, automatic touchdown. At least that was the rule then, and they'd be idiots to change it, considering just how stupid such a thing is.

  • Movuggin Simmons!

  • Dicky Maegle's son is my tennis coach at my high school. It was cool to find out that his dad played college and professional football.

  • Fucking moron. Typical southerner. Can't beat em' fair and square so they have to cheat.

Got their asses kicked in the civil war and they are still pissed off.

  • Don't worry...yankees will win the national championship sometime. nah.

  • They are both universities in southern states, genius.

  • You a moron dumbass yankee pig.

  • If the Southerners are such a disgust, why did the North fight to keep them in the Union?

  • @rayjr62 Rice University is located in Houston, Tx. Take a look at a map sometime then you might realize that they are both in the South, AND that Rice is more south than Alabama. Idiot.

  • That's Awesome! At least you know who's team Lewis was on! Team Spirit!

  • Classic Alabama...Don't worry Tommy, Alabama is carrying on the tradition. What class they have...only in Tuscaloosa.

  • USC, USC, USC, USC, USC, Dun dun, dun dun dun dun, dun dun, dun dun! But I give it to the SEC, as the toughest conference, then the Bg 12 then the PAC 10

  • to all you cow-fucking auburn faggots....auburn has some of the nastiest cheap-shots in football history! the chop block on glenn dorcy, the cheap earhole shot on reggie bush....hell one of those auburn bitches took a cheap shot at northwestern's kicker yesterday and broke his leg! so SHUT THE FUCK UP TALKING SHIT ABOUT BAMA CHEATING CUZ YOU COW-FUCKING INBREDS ARE FAAAAAR WORSE THAN BAMA HAS EVER THOUGHT ABOUT BEING!!!!!

  • Have you actually attended a class at the University of Alabama? Or are you just a sidewalk fan?

  • yes, im actually a junior majoring in bioligical sciences

  • ThIs is hilarious---Someone from the Barn posted this on their football forum, as evidence that "Bama cheats." HAHAHAHA! As if....

And that idiot whiner "They could have broke my leg"....if only.

They got a touchdown out of it---he should be happy. But no,......he's whining. And Auburn, today, in 2009, continues to whine: They had to dig back 55 YEARS to try and make a point about Bama being cheaters.

    Still laughing.....

    (rolling my eyes) ....

    ROLL TIDE!

  • SEC FOOTBALL BIATCH, ROLL TIDE

  • Youre proud of Tommy Lewis for this? Sad
