  • Thanks for your help. I'm learning Japanese, why? to watch more anime lol.

  • Konomi san is the best English speaker among the Japanese natives teaching Japanese!

  • TNX FOR GIVING US A LESSON

  • YOU ARE SO GOOD...KEEP GOING

GOOD LUCK...ALSO YOU ARE SO CUTE

    ^^

  • What is the phrase at the end? I think it means something like until next time, see you later, but I just wanted to get the correct pronunciation in romaji. Thanks for this series!

  • Question, how much Hiragana should I learn before stepping up to Kanji?

  • well done

  • You should slow Down for first timers so they can understand more easily because this is actually really fast for first lesson

  • konichiwas pronounced wrong.

  • With "Today" U R making such gorgeous gesture and I hate when You Are not doing this :)

  • nextworld5 ill second that lol

  • Just wondering do you get money from this?

  • @nextworld5 Japan Society is actually a non-profit organization located in New York City, so we don't make money from this. People are welcome to donate to the organization to help us continue our programming and events. Videos are just a small part of what Japan Society does, as we have various gallery exhibitions, films, performances, lectures, and other events year round. So check out our website if interested!

  • That was excellent! You have perfect presentation skills. My question is about which name to use when introducing yourself: with your Surname or your first name? I once used an old Japanese instruction video that indicated you should introduce yourself using your Surname, so for example if your last name was 'Smith', (according to that other video) you would say "Watashi no namae wa Smith-desu". Is that the proper way?

  • @kanadajindesu2 When introducing yourself, it's customary to say your last name first then your first name. People will then refer to you by your last name(In your example, "Smith-san"). Unless they are really close to you, they won't call you by your first name.

  • I have a question. Is it also right to say 自分の名前は____です. Instead of 私の名前は___です?

  • anybody else doing this so they dont have to read the subs on anime ?

  • @sasukelgty amen brother

  • Hajime mashite . Watashi no namae wa Filip desu. Yoroshikou onegai shimasu.

  • Arigatou, Konomi-Sensei.

    From: Singapore.

  • IM IN LOVE... <3_<3

  • i have learned to write like this: watashi wa ____ desu ? xD

    i'm confused now xD .

  • @katta1206 "わたしは_____です。” Good luck!

  • Isn't dousoyoroshiku

  • @Shinypoopypants dozo just makes it even more polite

  • can i say watashi wa stella desu? o: coz i learned that loong time ago and im use to it..and now im getting confused..>-<

  • It's kinda weird for me. When you said "Watashi no namae wa konomi desu" for the first time, I understood everything without knowing the exact translation.

... I guess I watch too much anime.

Anyways, great lesson! I'll begin to learn japanese on a school for it soon and this is really helpful! =D Japanese is a great language. I really like to speak it, even though I don't understand very much.

  • konechewa watishi wa zakku to immasu. I'm am just learning japanese and would u like to help me learn?

  • I keep on forgeting that you don't pronounce the 'u' -.- i shall get it someday XD

  • @KoalaBaby2015 when O and U is combined its a double vowel

  • Oh my goodness, this is much harder than Mandarin.

  • SAY WHAT?! SO HARD LA. just kidding

  • This isn't actually non-profit organization, this organization earns more than you can imagine! If they used ads on these videos they would not earn that much because the lack of viewers. Instead, people who really wants to learn Japanese language will support this organization by donations. Thus, it's better for them to pretend that this organization is "non-profit". Can't blame them though, we're all bastards who all care about is money.

  • arigatou gozaimasu

  • is it alright if i just said:

    Jakarin desu?

  • 0:50

  • wooooow!!..i love your english accent!!..you sound so fluent!!..*_____*

  • how can i speal it in japanese ??!

  • what does waku waku mean?

  • @eiazeventeen I am excited

  • @BobLeKatt Thnx! =)

  • are there big differrences between " Watashi wa " and " Watashi no namae wa " ? >.<

  • @MaYuKoRaion from what I have learned, "watashi wa" means "I",

    whereas, "watashi no" means "my"

I don't think I am wrong, but if I am someone please correct me. (:

  • it sso great ^.^

    arigatou, for these films ^^

  • konomi san i have doubt....is it rude to say otsukare sama desu to senior coworker ?

  • im finding these vids useful but i wish they were longer

  • Comment removed

  • KONOMI I love Gradius!!!!!

  • @farashh86 its konnichiwa because if you read it in hiragana its こんにちわ not こにちわ

  • @chuggaafan96 Actually it's こんにちは

  • can you make one where you speak slower because i am confused. i mean i am taking notes but i need to know how to say each word

  • hajimemashte watashi no namae wa Jan yoroshiku onegaishimasu

  • Why are the U's silent? Why are they written at all?

  • @ashcatash5 It's because how the Language is. However in Osakan dialect they stress the U. If you ever watched Tokyo drift and saw the scene where takeshi's boss enters his quarters and speaks you will catch him saying desu with a voiced U

  • So is U always silent at the end of a word?

  • @ApplePieOfDeath32 Certain words

  • ITS TOO HARDDDD!!!

  • Hajime Mashite

Watashi No Namae Wa Lyka Desu

    Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu

  • Hi, I just discovered this Japanese class, so clear and easy to understand and I love it. I have a question though, when I read manga, the english says 'Nice to meet you. (Hajime mashite) Please take care of me. (Yoroshiku onegaishimasu)' Does Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu = 'Please take care of you' too?

  • Well I look some

  • Lets see if I remember without looking Hajimemashite watashi no namae wa _____ desu yoroshiku onegaishimasu

  • Konichiwa, hajime mashite. Watashi no namae wa Harley desu. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!

  • is katagana just the capitals of hiragana? or are they something totally different?

  • @drpolarbeer

Konichiwa.. no it is something different and it is looks more sharper than hiragana and used for non Japanese words

  • Konomiさん、I have two questions:

    1) What is your name in Kana or Kanji if it is in either one

    2) If you were to meet someone in the morning, would it be, "おはようございます、私の名前はアレックスです”?

  • @AlexasarusRex (1) It's このみ in hiragana, and 木の実 in kanji. It's a kanji for "kinomi" but you read it "konomi". (2) Yes! It's correct if you want to say "Good morning. My name is Alex". It would be normal if you're talking in front of a lot of people, like teaching a class. If you're meeting someone in person, it would be more natural to say

はじめまして、私の名前はアレックスです。"My name is Alex. Nice to meet you" even if it's in the morning.

  • Hey, I love how you speak Japanese :).

And I think it's great that somebody like you helps me and other people to teach japanese ;).

    Subbed, liked, Fav.

  • my name is alyssa so in japanese it's arisa desu?

  • lesson 1 - are you kidding me - just introduce 3 simple words - hello, goodbye, thankyou

  • dont know why i dont like her.

  • shes a cutie <3

  • my mom said that I need to learn spanish first then japanese so when I finish spanish I will go back to learning japanese

  • matane = Cya later :)

  • i kept on messing up on i the last two words.. -__- i finally got it in my 10 failed attempts

this is great! i would be happy to learn in society one day!

  • Yay time to catch some japanese school girls! YES

  • I'm brazilian, and even still learning the japanese AND english language, I could understand the lesson very clearly. Thanks and awesome work!!

  • @VineOkubara My case is the same. I'm from Chile, but I can completely understand these videos. These lessons are great!

  • かわいいですね

  • Watashi wa nippon ga daisuki <3

  • you can just say your name + desu. lol making it longer than it actually needs to be.

  • Konomi is her first name, I think. It is more common to introduce yourself with your family name in Japan at least in formal occasions such as the settings shown in this video.

  • Can you say "hi zaria i would like to see you".. in you next video pls.. by the way.. im a giiirl

  • Why aren't American girls this cute? :( Japanese and chinese girls are so pretty and nice.

  • Konomi is so cute!!

  • I couldnt keep up >.<

  • ai shiteru -> I love you. - > Kocham cię (polish) ;]

  • What means "I love you" in japanese? =D

  • you went to fast. slow down a little

  • I Love Japan <3

  • @arkutiaa let me see... watashi wa Nihon ga suki desu. Is that correct?

  • @Rand0lphCart3r it's 私は日本が好きです。 Watashi wa(you say wa but you write ha は) ga sukidesu. Yep it's correct:). You can also use Nippon instead of Nihon both are correct.

  • @arkutiaa Yeah, I want to live in Tokyo Japan!

  • HUH ? o_o

  • wow!!! u r so nice! loved ur accent n voice :)

  • lol i said this to my friend and he was like, WTFF

  • Can you make more videos? This is very helpful! However, can you also talk slower?

  • Really liked the lesson. Wish I could find more online.

  • ถ้าคุณสามารถอ่านได้นี้คุณฉลาด

  • Some dude came up to me and said i was something called a backa anybody know what that means

  • @NinjaBLade136 LOL "baka" means stupid or idiot

  • anyone want to learn Japanese with me online?

  • @lilylessons Yes, i will. Greeting from India.

  • =O otra vez wtf

  • yeahhhhhhh

  • I've always wanted to go to japan

  • Great video

  • A different tutorial told me "dozo yorozhiku".

    Is that different?

  • @Duelist8970 they're close to the same thing. You could say "dozo yoroshiku onegaishimasu" and that would be even more polite (for more formal occassion). "Yoroshiku onegaishimasu" tends to be fairly versatille and useful in most situations. "Dozo yoroshiku" tends to be the most casual of the three.

  • @JapanSocietyNYC I'm going to Japan. You might see me there xD

  • I love this!

  • please, what means: jikai mo tanoshimi ni

  • @caletcalet in this context, it basically means "Don't miss the next episode!"

  • @JapanSocietyNYC thank you very much

  • @caletcalet jikai means: next time. mo means: also/too. tanoshimi ni means: to look foward to something, enjoyment or pleasure. so as a whole it basically means: "look forward to the next episode!"

  • @caletcalet google is your best frd !

  • Thank you Konomi.

  • First comment XD! this is good and you are talking english so great! I´ll watch next videos x))
