HOLY FUCKING SHIT! I met this guy almost 2 weeks ago in the streets of Amsterdam when i was traveling through Europe....SIMPLY AMAZING! Love the peaceful melodies in all the songs of your Boomerang Dream CD!
Someone please send me one of those flutes! I wonder, if you're born in New Zealand, is it possible to play a Shakuhachi? I guess, that's like asking if Yamaha can make a decent Boehm system silver and gold-plated flute (like mine).
Nice Work! I have watched quite a few videos on shakuhachi, both good & bad, and I can tell you that Avi is no slouch on the shakuhachi. He is obviously quite talented, and I am a little surprised to see him get such clear, clean, crisp notes from a shakuhachi he made himself - a testament to his determined technique and skill, no doubt. ;) Very nice, indeed.
Really nice! I too am learning shakuhachi and this is probably the first time I've heard someone intently play in a "non-traditional-japanese" fashion and like it. Shakuhachi is a versatile instrument, now it's very hard to get out of the traditional technique and playing style without loosing the soul of it, and you manage to doi that, congrats!
I am white, but I hate when white people play the shakuhachi and try evoking its transcendental sound - they think its easy, but it always sounds like some white person playing. Just like when a white person tries to make sushi because it looks easy, but they never get it right.
You obviously don't know how many "white" Dai-Shihan there are and how many really really bad japanese shakuhachi players. Not a well thought out comment.
I would like to think that music and sushi transcend the boundries of race. It seems that your limited view of the world is the thing which is denying you the full experience of what the essence of lets say "shakuhachi and sushi" truley are...you have totally missed the whole point, this is why it never sounds or tastes as good as it really could to you because you focus on the superficial things in life.
Your comment also goes to suggests that your bias way of thinking would insinuate that you believe a JAPANESE person would never be able to play the guitar or make a cake, simply because its not essentially Japanese. YOU ARE SORELY MISTAKEN ON SO MANY LEVELS.
music is the ticket to your inner world.no borders .
