i got the chance o see them live a couple of times, once in nyc about 10 years ago before they were huge. the music isn't the same to me, and i've read that other people feel the same way. there's a ton of old material, dessert sessions, even kyuss, that has a more raw feel to the music which appeals to me. for some reason, the newer stuff seems watered down. i don't think that makes me nuts.
