Some Colt AR15 rifles had a pivot pin that was kept in with a screw as seen in this video.
I am not aware of any Colt AR15 series rifles that use this system any longer.
If your rifle has the pin retained by a screw, you can change it out to the standard pin as long as your original pin is the correct diameter. All you need is a pivot pin spring, pivot pin detent, and a pivot pin. It's an easy swap, although not at all necessary.
Users of the M16/AR15 platforms better be damn familiar with cleaning their rifles, and doing it constantly, otherwise the firearm craps out and becomes a jamming piece of useless junk. If you need a rifle to trust your life with, then its the AK47 FOR THE WIN!! AR15's = shelf queens FOR DISPLAYING IN THE RIFLE CABINET!! AK47 = ALPHA MALE KING that you CAN to trust your life with.
Almost never need to remove the extractor... especially for newbies... a problem ready to happen... but at least he covered it... certainly not needed to clean for many thousands upon thousands of rounds,,, and might as well replace it then.
@ChristianArmorOfGod good to know as I am a newb! xD so I have a fairly new AR 15. I havn'et fired it yet. I was reading and it said I needed to clean it before firing it. I notice so oil in it do I need to clean it then re oil the basic parts??
@187dAFeD You should take her down and together several dozen times or more until you are familiar with her function, and assembly. I would also with dummy rounds or safety checked to be empty, hold and sleep with her until comfortable with it, dry firing all you want. Fore sure I would clean her several times, one to be certain that she is clean and two, to learn to do it right. Oil sparingly, but remember better to have a tad more than less. The most essential areas to keep cleaned will
Will be the ring areas - top & bottom of bolt, w/rings staggered, and the bottom of inside of the bolt carrier in the top corner, are most essential to keep clean and lubed.
Firing pin to be lightly coated too...The rails of the bolt need a drop each and one drop in each port and in the tube,& carrier key. Sure any moving metal2metal part has tiny oil & Patch in barrel til white.
All the rest could be ignored if shooting quality ammo like Lake City, if cheaper ammo, then your milage will vary.
@187dAFeD I suppose if you had a cruddy pin it would be... even the standard mil spec pins would do well.
Always inspect the pin when you clean, but you should have no problems... What you have to watch out for and never do unless an accident is never fire or drop the hammer when the weapon is apart. That can crack your receiver. But as long as it's together, no problems. If it wears out or your concerned get a spare, there about 9-20-40 bucks, and always good to have as a backup anyway.
Dude, this is a DYNAMITE video on AR cleaning. The only improvement I can see would be video quality. Sadly, it falls short there, but content wise, it's a 10. Thanks.
I'm sure your AR-15 will make you very happy. If you look at its design, modularity, accuracy, versatility, it is clear why this is the weapon of choice for the free men and women. True that the AK-47 is a mud gun, and will work under conditions when the AR-15 may fail. But that's because the AR-15 was designed for people who are worth a precision gun, riflemen who receive marksmanship lessons for long-range target shooting.
@chinthenatureboy Look up the definition for 'liberal' it does not mean anti-gun. I find it both humorous and sad that so many people throw labels around and have no idea what they mean. If you are for liberal gun laws it means you oppose restrictions. It doesn't mean you're a Democrat, and even if you are a Democrat, it doesn't mean you're anti gun.
great Videos you have my only remark would be to never tell anyone new to this to use their firing pin! You never want to take the chance in damaging it. Use a punch!
@JSwanny1030 The .223/5.56 round is the size around as a .22. There are bolt and mag kits for the AR-15 so you can fire .22 LR rounds in it. So yes. the .22 brush is the correct brush to use.
Great demo! What about brushing the bore. Use soft brush and tip to remove carbon built in the injector, then lub bore with either Rem or Kano oil. Use 50/50 mixed of Kano and Hobb as my cleaner/lub compound. To my fellow ARer, how to jag tip during bore cleaning bore process. Thanks! In advance.
This is an excellent series of videos. I learned a lot about about cleaning the AR15. I especially appreciate that you mention when and where to oil the AR15. Thanks...
