The bill didn't make it out of committee because any Democrat who's not a lock for reelection knows they would risk defeat whenever they're up again. The majority of American people have never wanted a public option. Since the idea has been in the spotlight, support for a public option has gone even further down. The Dems and GOP should start fixing the healthcare system by enacting law that solves problems of which both sides agree. Drastic change and complete inaction are equally damaging.

MA, HI have tried, and are trying a public option type. Free Market competition that is allowed to cross state lines will create competition, and true competition is where we want to be. It promotes quality care and services at competitive rates. Politicians should stay out of it, instead of playing this game with the country and OUR tax dollars.

The idea of buying insurance across state lines would be defeated before it ever got off the ground. The insurance co have the country divided up just the way they like it. A few have carved up the available market in the area and would not allow any competition to move in on their market. Since the lobby in Washington is so powerful now, it would only grow stronger if this were to be introduced.

I looked over MA public option insurance plan and it's basically what is spelled out in HR 3200. Although MA admits that it's a move toward universal health care. No such chance of that happening nation wide, with the insurance lobby being as powerful as it is in Washington.
