They might have used "sacred work" rather than "socialism" at the time to get democratic Russians on board. At first after the revolution the Russian government was a democracy. Then the Bolsheviks worked their way into power with seductive ideas of equality, society as family, and other utopian musings, and Marx's political writings were used to justify their ideas. Lenin was truly devoted to his interpretation of what Marx said, Stalin may have just been using
"Marxism" to get into power. Stalin at one point sided with the anarchists before joining the Bolsheviks. Whether Stalin was a believer in Marxism or just using it we can only guess.
But my first point was that since it is not "socialism" it's "sacred work" the song read that way better reflects the temporary compromises after the Russian Revolution but before the Bolshevik revolution.
@maikijs88 One of the reasons the first thing the new government did was divert funding to educating students, leading the USSR to become one of the most educated nations on the planet.

The literal translation is quite a bit different.
"Golden Calf" is "Tsar". "socialism" is "sacred work".
Why the huge discrepancy in how the song was translated?

@sicktoaster The version shown here is the more lyrical version of the English translation, not the exact Russian to English version.

Is the music speeded up? It seems *a lot* faster than other versions of this that I've heard.
