Reason I ask this is because my 98 stratus is a DOHC 2.4 and I have a cherry bomb turbo on it and it sounds deeper. Could be my air ram intake though...idk
Idiot, that muffler is meant to decrease back pressure which is good on turbo cars hence the name of the exhaust but on your NA ricewaggon you're just loosing torque and gaining rice.
Back pressure is bad all the time for any engine. If that is 2.25" or 2.5" it is perfect, doesn't matter what it sounds like. Also, the name turbo muffler has nothing to do with its purpose. Please do a little research. You are misguiding so many people.
no you are. engines need back pressure. they cant have to much because it will restrict the engines full potential and too little will do what canuckerz said. think of it like blowing air out of you mouth. open you mouth too wide and you dont get the air to move fast enough. and if not open enough you cant really get much air out at all. you have to get it just right to get the air (or exhaust in an engines case) to move as fast as possible
That isn't back pressure, that is the scavenging effect. That's what I was saying. It isn't backpressure that creates the perfect situation. Back pressure would be like someone blowing in your mouth as you try to blow air out.

Why not just make an exhaust that is only 1" thick? Hmm? Then tell me how awesome your new engine is. I have no idea how many people got this into their head that back pressure is good at all.
