Bravo to organist Karosi. Bravo to the organ builder. The JOY of the heavens and the intellect and soul of Bach shine through this performance. Thanks for posting!
Um....anyone who criticises this performance, given that this appears to be an unknown, or 'unfamous' organist, should hold their tongue. This piece is INCREDIBLY difficult, and none of us know how heavy the organ is to play. WELL DONE. I am impressed.
I've had the pleasure of playing this organ, and although that church looks like a caboose, the organ is FANTASTIC. The 8' plenum in that space is really remarkable. The action is clear and responsive! The organ is unfinished, though, if I remember correctly. Next stop, Church of the Advent!
Once more, after listening one Fantasy by the same organist, why does he use a reed, it would have been good at the end of the fuga.
And there is not progression at all, it is a pity in a fuga, remaining on same keyboard and same stops from beginning to end, when we know that Bach liked to change keyboards in a performance...
C'mon Balint--You've deservedly built-up an audience and we want more Bach-videos-pleeeze. I, also would like to hear BWV 543 and BWV 538, both, I'm sure you've played many, many times! Maybe you're working-up a load of Bach now--can't wait--thanks, again!
no one can right a fugue like bach. god i love listening to this fugue. do you think that you can post a video of you playing the fugue in a minor bwv 543.
For me his performence is too fest . I think, this fugue should be monumental and realy THE GREAT, and he plays too light and to fast, but his technique is the best
This is marvellous! I have listened to more than 90 recordings (I think) of this fugue. Karl Richter is my "hero" in Bach-interpretations, especially the recording from the early/mid -60's at Jægersborg Church, Copenhagen. And this recording/interpretation is outstanding too, in my ears! I really enjoyed listening to this!! Thanks for sharing!!! :) I'll search for Toccata & Fugue too, played by this brilliant organist! Anybody that knows if it's "posted" here? (Excuse my rather poor English) :)
Wonderful! Great exuberant tempo. STOP BREAKING ALL PEDAL NOTES! You also can't phrase and articulate pedalines if all notes detached. But love the detached fugue subject notes also continued in the pedal. Love your phrasing and articulation. No reed in pedal if none in manuals. Fantastic. Thank you. I needed that. You have made my day.
Of course you can have reeds in the pedal and none in manuals!
And yes, it's sounds much better with legato in the pedal. And of course you can articulate even with playing legato! You just have to be very exact!
I like this performance very much! The tempo is slightly over the tempo I would play this in and sometimes it can feell a little bit over articulated but it's still very good played!
Not on this organ! I think that his registration on this organ is pretty much perfect! Maby some more mutation stops in the manuals!
If the pedal reeds are to strong you can always use a manual coupler and borrow. This perticular reed that he is using does not seem powerful at all.
Yes conecting them requires a lot more planning and a lot more effort but of course even the greatest of all organists has to work hard to get things perfect! I know I have strugle a lot with the articulation.
I have one recording of Bach which you can listen to if you like. It's not perfect but I think that it's pretty much what you meen with connecting the notes and still articulate very acurate so you hear all notes!
Your phrasing, articulation and choice of tempo allow the piece to dance and breathe. I love the clarity of the sound too. Congratulations on a brilliant performance.
Superb! Great interpretation and technique! I love playing this and its so nice to hear a good performance! Your articulation is very acurate and well executed! I so enjoyed hearing your performance. BRAVO!
The playing certainly is alive and compelling. The tempo seems appropriate. Perhaps the only question might be why some of the rhetorical figures that make up the fugue subject at broken apart because of the choice to articulate at a certain spot.
a one-man orgy .. with arms flying .. feet dancing and body rocking! Bach's creation takes you over and puts its pelvis to the throttle; you dissolve as the alien now thrills us with the sound of his ravaging organ while he's swaying to the rhythm of the cosmic beat ..
mr balint karosi .. keep playing .. continue forever to serve the muse .. for you are now her slave
You are the greatest Bach organist I have ever heard. I could listen to this piece over and over again. Your understanding of Bach and the mastery you have of the organ shines. I hope you post more videos.
there is no climax for a peace. bach never wrote on the topic of his peace this fugue has exactly to have 4:15. your talk is not realy profesional. scientists say that in the baroque they played all slower than now!
Why would scientists say that? It ispossible that Bach played slower than we think because his students told their students and those students told their students and so on... That does not mean Bach played things slowly I am sure he would play some things quite fast to make thigs more exciting in certain cases...
Bach probably played it differently every time. I bet he would be disappointed if he heard all the bickering over a single note and the musical snobbery and criticism that goes on nowadays. Obviously as Kapelmeister, so many works are almost religious artifacts..but I think he probably enjoyed just the pure fun of creating music (almost the "Pop Music" of his day) - JB was a genius - his output was incredible - and he inspired a lot of other musicians (you know who)
I love you're expression. It seems very fluid and lyrical, but not at all in the classical or romantic sense. I love J.S. Bach and after watching most of your videos, I am in awe of your talent and your ability to bring to life the compositions of the genius organist and composer from the Baroque. Thank you!
The tempo is good: it make this long-streched theme more comprehensible. His pedal play is virtuosic: no retarding or delaying; Excellent.
Unfortunately he "runs trough" the fuga instead of giving a proper phrasing, which may be sensed as "too fast." He does not use cadences or the completion of a musical thought as points of rest or relaxation.
this is one of my favorite fuges of all time,it's a shame that most people in this world doesn't understand how wonderful Bach's music really is, you've played this peice very, very well.
yeah, that's right, but it's sequence of democracy. When Bach lived, Princes supported artists like Bach, today folk rule, and city councils support only "artists" of pop-culture or techno, hiphop etc.
A very good rendition of the fiendishly difficult G minor "Great" fugue. Bravo, bravo. I thought the organist was very fluent and confident. I shall now go seek the Fantasia. Zseniális.
Nincs olyan felvétel esetleg, ahol Karosi Bálint Bach-tól a "nagy" C-mollt játsza?
A BWV 546-ost, azt a monumentális remekművet, prelúdiumot és fúgát. Szerintem sokan szívesen hallgatnánk az ő előadásában.

Do you not agree that it is unbalanced with reed in the pedal but not in the manuals?
Why have more in the pedal?
I dislike the trend many seem to be following like unthinking sheep that pedal notes be separated.
I like separation for phrasing and articulation, but so often the musical line is ruined with the notes ALL separated.
Connecting them requires more planning and effort but it is more pleasing.
