i got what seemed to be a normal sinus infection (with laryngitis and a terrible ear infection). after the infection seemed to clear up, i noticed my speaking & singing voice started to deteriorate. i ended up finding out that i contracted a rare virus that paralyzed the nerves that control my vocal cords (similar to bell's palsy for the vocal cords). i was told that my body had 12 months to recover (if at all). it was very scary to be told i would probably never sing again, but i never gave up.
