aww i miss the window 95 one!!!! it's not even funny!! all the oldies bring back memories.... window 3.1..... DOS systems...... goooooooood timessssssss..................­. :) ^_^ but windows 95 was a great operating system (so is windows ME). although graphics and stuff were not too great, they were nice, simple, did NOT take time to load or reboot, and best of all, the old operating systems didn't bug you with STUPID UPDATES AND OTHER ANNOYING CRAP!! lol But I think xp is ok.... :)

I think the Windows Server 2003 Product Family is the best. I even run it on my desktops, non-server computers. Windows Fundamentals for Lecacy PCs is rock-on for older PCs.

It depends on your need. If you want basic but stable windows usage with very low requirements, 2000 rocks. XP, a little more resources, a few more advanced features... But 2003 if you run all sorts of servers (DNS, DHCP, IIS, DC, etc). I have noticed that 2003 really doesnt even need all that much more memory than XP does. Vista though is just visually "pretty". Same with server 2008. I cant really think of any features that microsoft could offer that would make me want a new windows version.

I really dislike visual things - sucks up processing threads from your GPU, CPU, etc, takes up disk space. 2000 is ok, but does not have the nice 'ol Server features of Server 2k3. Server 2k8 - too visual... I have integrated or crappy GPUs on my Servers. I only have good CPU and RAM.

I would say Linux or some flavour of BSD is the best for servers... ends up being cheaper, more secure and reliable. If you really hate visual effects, use the classic theme or move to another OS (I went to Linux, u can get pretty much any desktop you like, from a simple tiled window manager to something prettier than vista)
