  • GOOD,BUT BONO IS NOT THE GREATEST SINGER AS EVERT CLAIMS.

  • Letterman somehow always gets the best bands to play on his show

  • the only thing that sucked about this is why u2 would put their talent on such a shit show like letterman, whose talent in his field is in no way comparable to u2's talent in their field.....?...... they shoulda gone to conan, that woulda been a better fit.....

  • It's a five month old post, but it's worth a response. Without Letterman, Conan would still be a writer. Letterman admittedly mostly coasts these days (rarely leaves the studio, which was his biggest strength) but his show in the 80s and for a large part of the 90s was by far the best. Conan, Jay, both Jimmies and the rest owe a lot to him. Hell, even Johnny Carson adjusted his show in the 80s to include more Lettermanesque pieces.

  • wow, cant believe you responded to 5 mth old post, but thanks for replyin :)

i disagree, though, aside from his outside studio skits, where you said he was strong, i just dont think hes that funny, he sticks with very generic remarks to get laughs, and a lot of times he just gets laughs because the audience knows hes expecting laughs... i just dont think he has anywhere NEAR the same talent as conan and even jay. i will leave out jimmy fallon because hes VERY rusty now lol

  • Most of what you say is true of Letterman NOW, but his legacy will be the strongest of any of the current late night guys. Conan's show has always been a weaker version of 80s Letterman. He's been the first to admit that he'll never touch what Dave has accomplished. Jay probably wouldn't even be on network tv without Dave. Carson had given up on him and Letterman gave him a voice. Jay may have won the ratings war, but if you ask top comedians who they prefer, Dave would win in a landslide.

  • Great shout outs to The Beatles and The Ramones.

  • just how many times has joey ramone died?

  • welcome u2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • best ever live band _ and best current band still recording The CD is a real (real) grower - go enjoy Mike

  • pleased you love the album _ it is a thing of emerging/growing beauty Mike

  • they probably want to leave some live surprises for the tour _ we have had three new songs live (4 by tomorrow with GOYB) - what other band does this before they have started the tour ? Answer = none They are still the best still around and relevant- by a country mile Bring on the tour Mike

  • Yes, but what band would be given the opportunity to promote itself w/ this type of unprecedented media blitz but U2? Bono was the one who said relevancy key to this release. Beautiful Day just sounded like yesterday's papers. Just like if this was Achtung B. & did When Love Comes To Town. For the record, I LOVE the new record and IMO don't need to lean on the old hits-if I had my druthers, I'd love if they did the whole record live with no old hits.

  • no one commands an audience like them...no one.

  • adam switched guitars at the end. I think they played one more. I hope someone had a phone cam.

  • Awesome. i agree with others I would have loved no line on the horizon. Will they end the week with get on your boots?

  • Nice improv bono...digging your rejuvenated voice...love nloth more than the joshua tree and as much as achtung baby!

  • Old song. New song. Cover song. IT. DOES. NOT. MATTER. Their new album is great. Their old stuff is legendary. Their concerts are the bees-knees. Awesome work on Letterman this week.

  • aye while i was hoping for another new song (i'd love to hear the title track), i'll take anything. great performance. ne one know of anything on the song they played to the audience after the show.. i'd love to see that too

  • Really was hoping for something like Moment of Surrender, Unknown Caller, Fez etc. Incredibly disappointing. Why do this song? You've got a 5 night showcase to promote your new record and you play this? Ugh.

  • to show your viewers that you havent forgotten where you came from.

  • LOL. In that case they should have played "11 o'clock tick tock". Rings a bell? I didn't think so...

  • I would go freakin' nuts if they played 11 o'clock tick tock now. Absolutely a great unknown u2 song.

  • and to live some live surprises, don't forget zoo tv, a media experience, fez for example surely will involve some live effects zoo tv kind, unknown caller also, probably it will have birds at the start on a big screen or something like that, and moment of surrender needs edge's piano and I think he didn't take it to new york, it's in their airplane ready for the tour

  • Wow - how cool. thx for sharing!
