your pulling her new coat along with the old hair, your not suppose to do that!! just the top part of the coat is to be pulled as the hair is dead there, please get some proper lessons
you do not know what you are doing! this is not proper handstripping of a terrier its cruel and not good to let people think its correct because it is not!
I strip some of the top show terriers in the UK and I am mortified at what you are doing
when you do maddies head is she bald.? I have tried to learn to strip my wire fox terrier from books and videos, with little success. So I do a combination of stripping and clipping. When I strip her head she is bald just in front of the ears. Seems a lot of the people that comment here seem to know how to strip a wire terrier but I can't find their videos. Thank you for sharing .
OH MY GOSH!! This is so horrible, you are doing it wrong, you are not being careful AT ALL, she is not enjoying it at all. You are very cruel, yes I understand the benefits of handstripping, but this is just wrong :(
I know your not soposed to cut terriers hair, And yeah people do cut their legs and paws and stuff. But you said "terriers fur is uncutable" but it's not because if you use a stripping knife incorrectly (twist your wrist ect.) you'll cut some hair, This guy in the video is doing it wrong.
As you've said if you use incorrectly a stripping knife you'll cut some fur. But doesn't mean that is correct to do this. You've never to cut terrier's hair, particularly wire fox terrier one, because it provoke hair transformation from hard and wire to soft and woolly. Cut terriers fur also turns the hair shine into a bad dully coat. You can cut just small part of hair to adjust the global grooming, especially between dog fingers and on the legs.
Oh. My. God. I am a groomer myself and I am wincing watching this. Have you done any research at all into how handstripping should be done PROPERLY? This poor dog must be in so much pain. You're pulling EVERYTHING out. Terriers dont NEED to be stripped, there are alternatives. You keep saying 'She don't like it.' Would you like someone pulling great handfuls of your hair out at the roots? I doubt it. She doesn't like it because she's in pain.
@cazkelly, I'm sorry, but for the skin health of the dog, a the terrier who has wire-hard coat must be stripped periodically. I don't mind how the man in the video do this work, I'm generally speaking. I repeat, stripping is not necessary for dog beauty, is necessary for his health. I'm not the only who say this, all the terriers breeder that I know think the same thing I've just wrote.
I'm a dog groomer and have been stripping my own for years too.
OK, she looks a little bald but my main problem watching this is that you don't pull her skin taught while you strip. It IS hurting her. Don't pull her skin upwards like that, pull it forward 1st then strip in the direction of the hair growth.
Poor little dog. No wonder she's trying to run away.
I hand strip Lakeland Fox terrier and airdales all the time for the last 20 years and they have NEVER looked bald like yours, Your grabbing too much at a time, poor girl no wonder she's yarning she's stressed out, and pissed off! poor girl
I've bred, worked and shown Lakelands all my life as did my father and his father, i suppose it's what you consider to be a good coat? up here in the lakes a good coat is required all year around, if you know what your doing it's easy to keep good all year, when striping you should only be removing the dead hair, you are misinformed on what's good for your bitch.
Your stripping to hard, it will take two years for that coat to come right again, brush the coat everyday for a couple of weeks until no more hair comes with the brush, then just strip out the hairs that are standing up with your finger and thumb until all that's left is the dense undercoat,
do it a bit at a time over the week until you have it nice and flat, then go over it lightly once a week with the knife, this will keep the coat good all year, stripping the outer and under coat like this will also ruin the colour.
I'm with Sunflower, a video of you doing the face and years would be extra helpful! Don't mind the silly comments people have been posting here.. I'm having some trouble with the face and ears so seeing it done will help!
You need to be reported. That is animal cruelty the way you are stripping her so harshly. I have a Welsh Terrier and we never strip her that much. That is just not right. There is a better way to strip than the way you are doing it. There is no need to be as harsh as you are!!. I hope one day that dog bites you and maybe you will learn to be kinder to your animals
what have u done to that dogs coat. we have our fox terriers stripped and they dont come back like that. they have short coats on thier backs. search bwarrrrk and see our dogs
a complete stripping is needed.a few times a year.... AS YOU KNOW a WIRE FOX and a LAKELAND TERRIER"S COAT, does not shed. When the HAIR DIES....it needs to be STRIPPED COMPLETELY....READ ABOUT IT
I have 2 wire fox terriers who i get striped every 8 to 10 weeks and it is not done as harsh as you do.
look at my videos of our dogs. they had their hair cuts before the videos. type in bwarrrrk my username on search or cassie and scooby or just 1 of their names
Hi! I'm so glad I found your video. I'd like to see you do the face, rear end, etc., etc. I want to HS because I've heard the clipping dulls the color of the coat. I've got a WFT. He's 10 months old and pretty mellow for a terrier. Could you please write and tell me which blade #s you think I should use. The "breeder" is clueless, and most of the goomers here just want to use electric clippers. Do you do the whole dog, legs and all? Anyway, thanks for responding.
Yes I strip the dog except as described by the standard. The face and ears are stripped by hand with out a stripping knive. The legs are stripped to the lower leg in back. the front legs have furnishing all the way to the shoulder. The furishings are trimmed. the under belly is clipped.
Maybe I'll post another video for the face and ears. Although most people wouldn't like to see it.
we have just adopted a 13 year old Lakeland terrier. (she is coming home in 2weeks)
We saw her and jumped in because she has been at the shelter for most of her life so we did not really get to research this breed but I am now before she comes home.
I just bought a medium teeth stripping knife from Pearson and plan to strip my wire haired fox terrier baby for the first time. She is now five months old. Is it too early to do it? Wondering how do you strip the facial hair? It really sounds painful..
I suggest a complete stripping, then you can keep it up every three weeks or so.
I use medium and fine stripping knife...pearsons is excellent. The best way to strip is have a breeder take you thru it a fw times. It's worth every penny. I had the breeder of my dogs teach me.. The face and ears are the hardest but over time the dog and you get comfortable at it.
My old dog, Maddie after awhile slepted on my lap while I stripped her.
i was wondering how long does it take to strip the coat, I was thinking of getting a Lakeland or Welsh Terrier so I was wondering hwo hard it is to learn and do
no i understand now. it was inititally quite shocking for me to see, as i have a poodle and am only used to seeing and using clippers. i didnt mean to sound harsh :(
i usually do not like to pass judgement however, this method seems painful and unessisary. clippers would be a lot less painful for the dog, as well as faster and more effective. this just looks cruel to me.
Poor dog. Not the way to strip.

You are correct....poeple who comment and have a differenet way to hand strip a wire haired terrier should do a video.

You wouldn't have to completely strip her coat if you don't allow a blown coat and maintain the stripped coat. Read about it!

If everyone is telling you that you are doing this wrong, why won't you even consider it?
Your technique is not working. The dog looks too bare and is obviously in pain. Please consider.
