@loveismydestruction This is true. However, Rachmaninov more often than not played his own compositions much faster than he indicated in the score. His recordings of the piano concertos will bear me out. Personally, I like the tempo Heifetz chose, and more importantly the character he gives this piece, much like magma under a thick layer of ice; very Russian.

Heifetz plays everything faster than others do. It does not always mean a good thing. Well it does demonstrate his technique.

@loveismydestruction I don't understand your comment - he's playing at just about about exactly 60. Most interpretations are slower than 60.
