seriously if u r planning for architecture institute so u have to forget abt sleeping again. only u ur pencils, sheets and laptop will b ur friends. and u will miss all those good days when u cud sleep for hours. but u will make da same wish for ur whole life then "may the time roll back and i get back to student's studio not office". im student and im enjoying it.
When I was Arch school back when we did everything with these pointed sticks called pencils, we hot glued all our study models to the studio ceiling, The school ignored it until we had like 25-30 glued up there.... all layed out like a regular city!
Same here just about. Hand drafting is a required class for all freshmen, at the end of second year, we start doing computer models. They think any CAD program is a disgrace though, I like it myself, but we are required to use Rhino. Its a great program. you can do a lot more with it than with just AutoCAD
i love building models (airplanes, cars, whatever i canget my hands into) and im really exited to start building those models cause i want to study architecture!!!
what if you don't have time for a job with all the work load!! i heard it's intense....i'm thinking of doing architcture...can you please explain the kinds of projects we need to do? are they hard? do you need stellar imagination? and what is the presentations process like?
anyone is free to answer,...it'll help a lot, thanks
If you plan to study architecture... be prepared to have a lot of sleepless nights. I can't answer specifically what kinds of projects we do, as it varies according to the brief and requirements set by your subject coordinator, but basically you need to design a building in response to the brief, the site... bla bla bla, and thinking of ways how to design the flows of pathways you want people to undertake from the entrance to exit (if it's public). We call it architorture instead of architecture
We do what we do because we are creative people, and what we do is complicated work which simply makes us who we are, "Architects" the prime leaders of design industry. we make others happy and that is why we are proud.
I'm doing structural engineering and architecture. It's a full 3-year MEng course AND the first 3 years of Architecture, crammed into one 4-year degree. SLEEP DOES NOT EXIST. *cries*
omfg thats the worsest startrek epidose i ever saw in my life, leds =))) i know how it feels, making a house miniature... days of work iwth no sleepin breaks :(
Hey, I was really thinking about getting into architecture i took some basic classes on it back in highschool. Is it worth getting into even if I am 22 years old, how long would i be going to school?? can some one with first hand experience explain?
at our school you need four semesters of undergraduate studio, but before that, there are about 4 semesters of gen eds and prequisites to take care of. all in all, it's a solid 4 years of undergraduate. our grad program is 3 years, but i know many graduate programs are only 2 years. finally, you have a required internship that takes about 3 years to complete.
in all, between school and the internship, it's more or less 10 years.
at virginia tech you're in architecture classes right away and stay in them for 5 years, but the program is one of the best....i recently finished a 240 hr 16 day model...wooo
why is sleepless architecture students such a common theme?! ah well. my last project looked like a space ship too. after the grading i wanted to do a video with it where it flies through space to starwars music, then get's hit by a laser or something and goes on to burns to bits. I'm yet to do that, but do it I will!
Is it really true that architecture students have NO social life? I mean they have NO time to sit n talk with friends......like for 15 minutes?
Nundish 5 months ago
@Nundish If you learn to treat it like a job and work your 8hours efficiently. It is very easy however to get possessed about the work.

Ha! we do the same thing. Even take Hacky Sack breaks lol It gets rough working off of a few hours of sleep, for a week straight...

I think only arch student can understand this. All the others will think we're... well... aliens -_-"

That is an awesome idea! I'm totally doing that!
(by the way, in my college they still make us do everything with clutch pencil's, won't let us near CAD till third year)

Sleep deprivation seems to be a very common problem with architecture students all over the world. I study in Vienna and it's the same here...
somebody should really speak up against it. where are overanxious, morally outraged public service initiatives when you need them?

The most popular place for model materials is a store called pearl paint. It's all over the U.S. and I think in Europe. Hope this helps
