  • How many shitty bands are covering that songs anyway?

  • Sometimes the children of God go into very dark places to shine the light of Christ,to bring lost souls to Him.Amen.

  • Can't wait to see Mercy Me at Easterfest in 2012! Woooo Hoooooooo!!!!!!!

  • Mercy Me are fantastic. I love how they use a secular song and give it a whole different culture. It's kind of how the apostle Paul used secular stuff to begin his witnessing and get people's attention... meeting them were they were at and speaking to them using concepts they understood.

  • Ok. Love the song. The comments on thread lead me to believe not one of you know why Phil Colins orginially wrote the song. Do you?

  • Folks not to insult someone's preference, but here are some lyrics that could also be sung (to God?): No more lonely nights, You're my guiding light, Day or night Im always there - Paul McCart & also Stuck on you, I've got this feeling down Deep in my soul That I just can't lose, Guess, I'm on my way. Needed a friend and the way I feel now I guess I'll be with you till the end, Guess I'm on my way Mighty glad you stayed. - Lionel Richie. I guess the hymns of old just don't pull in the crowds.

  • Personally I love how they sing this song and it makes perfect sense when you listen to it.

  • WHATS NEXT? HIGHWAY TO HELL BY AC/DC....

  • @livin4jesus I disagree. It perfectly fits when sung this way to God. I Love this and the Tom Petty song they sing. I Won't Back Down.

    Sorry Maybe I read wrong...

  • @livin4jesus I disagree. It perfectly fits when sung this way to God. I Love this and the Tom Petty song they sing. I Won't Back Down.

  • anybody know what this is from?

  • @alstreet2009 Bro.......this band is from Greenville ,Texas as per Wikipedia........a Christian Rock Band.

  • @Kilroy7771 lol...thanks for that. I know MercyMe. I meant what the video was from. Bands don't usually record a high quality video from every concert so i was wondering if it was a music video or concert dvd or something.

  • wow, this is epic

  • They're just using the chorus...no verses. I guess they like the "oh Lord" part. Clearly they're just trying to create a "mood".

  • After listening to their performance, who are you to judge the band's decision to play part of a Phil Collin's song.

How about you go back to living under the old covenant of the Bible (under the law) and quite dragging others there with you?

    Mat.23:15 (NIV)

My job as a Christain is not to judge, but to love. And to show that love through my actions. It is the Holy Spirit's job to convict the heart of the sin, not my condemnation.

  • i think people make a big deal of everything its a good song whos jesus???

  • I loved it!! the way they started the concert... I have the who dvd and its great!!! listen to the guys testimony's and you will see they are real!

  • I hardly cal this a "cover"...but a repeating of the chorus over and over. Obviously they couldn't use the lyrics from the verses....given they must be a Christian group...which I gather from other people's comments.

  • This may have been main stream POP music in its day. Mercy Me took it and changed the feeling ot it..The day I was Baptized I could feel in change in the air..And after word I could feel a change in me..Let the artist sing show what the meaning is..

  • People. If you are a musician that does a song of someone elses, it doesnt matter what the original song writter thought about as they wrote it, or what they wanted to interpret through the song. The only thing that matters is what the musician is singing it for. They are sining it to God for positive reasons. They are not singing it for the same reasons as phil.

  • Nail on the head :)

  • Thank you.

  • @lilfish24 Amen to that

  • @lilfish24 I agree 100% with you on that. Isn't the beauty of music the fact that every song means something different to every person who listens to it. Mercy Me is by no means a sell out Christian band at all They are about as Christian as a music band comes.

  • Please scroll down and read the rest of the comments posted about this song. MercyMe is trying to connect to people who wouldn't listen to Christian music normally. A lot of people come to know Christ in very unusual ways. Thanks for your comment! God Bless You!

  • @k3ithbrown3 Listen to the words >I took it as though the presents of the Lord was there and they were inviting him to come on in.

  • @MrChamblisstom Look I know we have our own preferences etc. But would Peter, Paul or Jesus do something like this? Use a gimmick to draw in people? Nope, they would rather offend people than have those totally unwilling to embrace the things of God imagine that they are making God happy.

  • @k3ithbrown3 I have been a follower of MercyMe's career for many years. They have eclectic musical tastes. They draw in young people who may never have known Christ. This song was recently played at a concert in Dallas, and the Holy Spirit could be felt throughout the building. The guys in no way have sold out, they are using music that they grew up listening to that CAN be sung in a way that glorifies God. Blessings to you, and I hope you might give MercyMe a chance to witness to you,

  • @gburcalow I also like their music, but what you euphemize as 'eclectic' is actually 'of the world'. They need the 'power' of the Holy Spirit to draw people to Christ (like Paul & Peter etc.) Or do you think He (The Spirit) is not powerful enough and we have to rely on Phil Collins' song?

  • A seemingly religous group.....

.....singing a song about being happy their wife cheated on them; lyrics that include "If you were drowning, i would not lend a hand".....

    ??????

and I'M the crazy one for saying religion is a business???.....

  • btw ichbingott4510 if you didnt noticed he didnt sing any of the verses. just the chorus.

  • Please watch the video again....Bart excluded all the verses. He is only singing the chorus and the way He is singing it is about the Holy Spirit coming to Him.

Also, I agree that organized religion is mostly about the money. But, there are a lot of us Christians out there who are honest and genuine. Please don't condemn the whole bunch just because of some "bad apples"

Thanks for the comment and God Bless you!

  • (1)

I'm FAR from insulting religion. I respect it, just as i hope I, as a person, am respected in my decision to not get involved with it. Religion has made people stand in front of a loaded gun. For that, that's TRUE devotion.

  • (2)

My issue actually IS with the "bad apples". The ones that go party and do coke on Saturday night, just to wake up next to a one-night stand as they're rushing off to church to gain forgiveness, only to do it again.

  • (3)

Metaphorically; imagine the "bad apples" as a truck that's just been off-roading. Religion/being saved is the cleanest of tissues; it removes those "blemishes" we all encounter at times. Now, i have no problem in getting rid of a bug stain or 2, but the "bad apples" would be like the truck being covered in mud; virtually everyday. Those "bad apples" are a disgrace; they are taking TOTAL advantage of religion .

(Sorry; didn't realize i was posting this 3-part comment backwards.)

  • I dont want to get in a big arguement bout this but I dont beleive those people truely have jesus. People who have Jesus in their life want to live his way. Sure christians can do some bad things, but if they are doing it knowing that all they have to do is ask for forgiveness and they can then get to heaven, then I think they are wrong. You might be able to take advantage of religion but I dont believe you can take advantage of God.

  • I respect you and your opinion. Personally, I don't consider myself a religious person. I just have faith in a Being that's way greater than me. I believe He created me and all that's around us. I don't attend an organized religion type of church. I believe the Holy Bible from front to back. It says a lot about the love of money. So, I stick with like-minded people who just want to worship God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Also, I enjoy helping people and spreading the message! Thanks again!

  • @livin4Jesus i agree 100% ^_^

  • @ichbingott4510 dude seriously if you gonna complain about someone else singin a song at least get the meanin of it rite. this song was wrote by phil to actually apprehend the murderer of one of his childhood friends (who just so happened to be the kids father) that he and only he hapnd to witness. he is talkin to his friends dad throughout the whole song.

  • @hroancdear21

You, my friend, are an ill-informed moron. Even a girl understands:

    youtube.com/watch?v=o_JgnTi0w0Q

  • @hroancdear21 ... research this a bit more and you'll find that Phil Collin's himself, says that he had nothing particular in mind when he wrote this song....

  • Awesome cover!

  • Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The drummer got it right.

  • Great. Best cover on YT.

  • Awesome, gave me chills.

  • they only sing the chorus! they should sing the verses too

  • Unfortunately, you can't please all the people all the time! GOD Bless You!

  • Personally, I don't believe in God, but I love MercyMe and I think their music is great!! I don't pay much attention to their lyrics and rate them solely on their musical content!! I also think that if they were not a Christian rock band, then they would be far more successful, even chart topping. I am not saying it's a bad thing, and I respect them for staying true to what they believe in...

  • does it matter if they "could be far more successful"? sometimes people make a living doing something they believe in, than something that will give them the highest earning potential. I know that wasn't your point, but I think its something that gets lost in common life, we all chase that paycheck but I think its nice to see some people who follow their heart. They are a great talent, and if you like them I think you should look deeper into Christian music, there is gerat talent!

  • Yeah that wasn't my point! I truly believe they are great and i fully respect them for staying true!! Can you give me any other bands that are like them? I also listen to Sanctus Real, Needtobreathe and Kutless... also great bands. It's hard to find such good music and am always delighted when I find others....

  • check out downhere, leeland, tree63 they are some good rockers, and of course third day who have been around awhile but they can still bring.

Also not sure if its your style but Toby Mac has some songs that appeal to almost anyone.

  • Cheers for that!! Much appreciated!!

  • mercy me sings a christain song right? or aren't they a christain band? been awhile since i've been to church but i think they are.

  • yeah they sing christian. they have many videos from their live concert dvd on the related videos section.

  • WOW it's amazing!! A very good cover about in the air ....

  • Yeah, I'm looking at this debate and saying to myself, "Wow...I'm really glad to see people taking this kind of stuff into consideration." Because knowing what songs put into you is hugely important; I tore up a cd of my favorite band of mine, because it was some of their old stuff and they weren't representing christ like they are now.

  • Hey, Thanks for the comment. I agree with you totally. When I uploaded this song, I had no idea I would get so many awesome comments. If music, regardless if it's Christian or secular takes our focus from God or dishonors him we should shut it off and tune in to Him. I personally don't listen to secular music. It's just my choice. I love listening to music that glorifies Him. But, when it takes me away from His will, off it goes. Praise God for people who care about whats important. Thanks!

  • Translation from Polish to English of ppmantiss' post: If we decide to abandon everything world for Jesus, we can overlook the opportunities afforded us the world in speaking about him. Computers, Internet, electronics, music - even secular - may be used for God's glory. I do not agree with what Talk9577 says, to abandon everything. We just need to be wise in making choices. And this song is a very positive and do not associate me with the flesh.

  • Thanx, af2acftmech, however let us now try avoiding any more mistakes. What I meant is that this song can be interpreted by both Chirstians and people who don't believe at all. I see this song exactly the way Mercy Me put it. It does not remind me of any past sins of mine and might as well be used to sing about God's glory

  • does MM open with this song often? I love it. Going to see them in october

  • I agree with you livin4Jesus, Bart is using this as a Spiritual song. I like it :)

  • Thank's for the comment! Sorry it took so long for me to reply! God Bless You!

  • Thank you for your comment. I agree with what you have said in your post. If you listen to the lyrics you'll understand why Mercy Me covered this song. Obviously you watched the video, so, you haven't released all the secular stuff in your life like your telling us to do. I'm not trying to jump down your throat. Just telling it like I see it. God Bless You!

  • i think it's ok for christian artists to play secular songs at their concerts. i saw chris tomlin at a camp and every day he would open with a cover song. he did Pat Green's Wave on Wave and then did Sweet Home Alabama....quite nice....and i've seen MercyMe do Don't You Forget About Me...the Breakfast Club song ya know....so good.....

this song couldn't be a worship song with the verses though...i agree....but the chorus was a good idea to open with....

  • Hey, Thank's for the comment! I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner! I guess it got past me....LOL! God Bless You!

  • Obviously you can't really have a "religious" feel with this song, except with the corus by it's self. Still cool though.

  • While I agree that there isn't a "religious feel" to this song, what I think Bart is trying to portray is the feeling of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. He is taking a secular song and turning the original meaning of the song into a spiritual one, like a number of other artists are trying to do with other song. Thanks for the comment and GOD BLESS YOU!

  • LOVE IT!!!!

  • Cool! Thank's for the comment! God Bless You!
