Looney Tunes' take on Hollywood's early gangster movies. Actor, Edward G. Robinson, is portrayed by the gangster character in this episode. Very funny scene!
@xherii nope sorry i don't know the name. maybe i am clever but i don't know the name. but rocky this man was real. just a man who made bugs bunny made a joke so he put him in it to make kids make fun at rocky so they not be scare like nazi's u.s.a made cartoon to make hitler and he's nazi land a joke so every kid can come down and make fun at hitler and nazi's but hitler not like it so in nazi all who saw this cartoon go to jail even if this a kid. so sorry.. but i can help if you want
rocky is really cute i need to say. p.s @jmcgee39 there have 2 show's of rocky in it. one of them well tell you what happened with this little idiot. P.S rocky was really real man. back in 1946 every cop in u.s.a trying to get him. no one got him but in 1947 his friend got by cop. then he work himself along. in 1952 rocky send to jail a cop called jack Joe got him. rocky killed 64 cop's and 70 people he was in jail for 20 year's then he was free and start a new life. so this cartoon was real. :)
@1812ARTHUR I remember a movie was also made uopn these charecters, can u tell me the name?? I've watched The Godfather and the leading role was Don Vito Corleone not Rocky
They don't make cartoons like this anymore! This was when Bugs was at his finest! Thanks for the memory. I laughed when I was a kid, and I laugh now as a bigger kid!
@joemjackson i meant fight club was a work of plagiarized fiction. Chuck Palahniuck stole the idea from this..... Im completely aware of how old this is, and yeah- totally right about cartoons not being good anymore

Ya know I've never realized how good a role model Bugs is, he's always eating carrots (vegatables), normally reading a book instead of watching TV or something, teaches you how to drive a criminal running to the police, and how to outwit your foes. Why would anyone ever think these cartoons bad?
You know, I think I learned my non-chalant acceptance of the unusual from him. You see some guy shooting a gun, you just duck under the bullets and say, "Low bridge."
@technoligyworroir No it doesn't. The 1970's is the worst gen. of animation. The 1940's is the best gen. of animation. Anyone who knew anything about animation would know that this was NOT made in the 1970s. *im only 15 years old and study animation and the history of it.*
@cheacky2 Worst? Have you checked out some international works of animation, like La Planete Sauvage? There were many fine works of animation in the seventies, but some of them are not American. Are you talking about quality or quantity?
@dharmaseed Quality. 60s animation didnt come in the quality that 30s 40s and 50s animation did, but it was fairly good even though it was limited animation. But in the 70s it was bad. Im not trying to offend the people who made cartoons during the 70s because they had no control. I bet most of the animators at the time would agree that animation was failing. But it is true that certain people in the 70s and the 80s tried to make the best with what they at least had.
@cheacky2 You have me there. Animation was still a fairly new art back in the forties, and each cartoon was like a work of art, since cartoons were usually showed before movies. Even Warner Bros. cartoons started to get lame back in the sixties, and Hanna Barbera's quality went downhill big time, even though the Jetsons and the Flintstones were huge hits.
@dharmaseed Yes, so that's basically my point. The 40s was a great time to experiment with animation, but animation itself was even older than the 40s. The Golden Age of American Animation started in 1928 and ended in the early 60s, so basically it's animation of the 30s 40s and 50s. But before the golden era, there was another era in animation called "the silent era". Cartoons of this era would have characters that wouldn't speak. here's an example: watch?v=UY40DHs9vc4&feature=related
@cheacky2 Wow, hadn't seen that one before, but to continue the conversation, one difference between the cartoons of the 1940's and 50's (and later on) was that five or six animators would usually be put on a five to six minute short, and it was spectacular. When animation teams got bigger, why did the amazing realism go out of the background art? For example, compare From 'Wags to Riches' and 'Millionaire Droopy' (both Tex Avery cartoons), the version was redone by Hanna-Barbera.
The Peter Lorre impersonations always look like Steve Buscemi, but Hugo is pretty much a dead ringer for the character Buscemi plays in Boardwalk Empire.
I've always liked this one. :) Although I never could understand why Rocky was still mad at Bugs even though he listened to Rocky and "gave him the dough (5:01)", LOL. :)
BUGS: Er, you go in first. I have to powder my lipstick!
HUGO: (somewhat annoyed) All right! But be quick about it....I don't want to miss the door prize! (giggle)
{as he walks in, the camera pulls back to reveal the whole banner above the door- "POLICEMAN'S BALL". Suddenly, we hear the sounds of a bunch of people beating up the guy that just walked in....}
It's funny how some typical English slang was used by Americans back then, but now has fallen out in America. like "Mug" and "Coppers" and even Curtains which Americans now seem to call Drapes.
@click4mychannel I don't think Bugs killed him. He's not a murderer! I'm sure he just sent Peter Lorre to jail. Now, GET OUTTA HERE, YA BIG BULLY!!!!!!
@click4mychannel Everybody calm down. This is bugs bunny we're talking about here. If anything the other guy just ended up like the mob boss. Completely wacko and running to the police. Either that or he's tied up somewhere.
Originally released in September 1946. Freleng's nickname turns up on a billboard at 1:28. Dick Nelson delivers the "Eddie Robinson" impersonation. Carl Stalling strikes up "(Look Out For) Jimmy Valentine" as a theme. Bugs imitates the famous "Lucky Strike tobacco auctioneer" {prominently featured on their radio shows back then} at 3:20, minus the "Sold to American [Tobacco]!" tag. He also imitates George Raft {who usually flipped a coin when playing gangster parts} at 5:09.
@fromthesidelines Fantastic! I wondered how many people would pick up on Edward G. Robinson and Peter Lorre. Some did. But you...you spotted an absolute slew of references from the era. That's the mark of a real fan.
"Sounds like Inner Sanctum!" That's because "Inner Sanctum Mysteries" was a radio show of the day which opened with the sound effect of a squeaky door hinge (which was actually a squeaky office chair!).
To this day, I use "low bridge!" when I have to duck under something - and I'm 6'3" in shoes.
Of course, I'm favorably biased toward Carl Stalling's use of "In My Merry Oldsmobile" when Bugs is taken for a ride!
Yo. Since you seem to be familiar with the music Stalling used, can I ask if you know the name of one particular tune? He seemed to like using it for chase sequences. For example, it turns up in "Pest in the House" when Elmer's running after Daffy down the stairs to the boiler room, it plays while Daffy's frantically running through the house in "Draftee Daffy," and it's used pretty much all throughout "Rabbit Transit." I've always liked that tune.
that was funny love the Edward G. Robinson Spoof of Little Caesar in this episode

@OldsVistaCruiser you're lucky you're 6'3"; so many opportunities for "low bridge" =]
