the premise of the killings being in batemans mind is brilliant. i think that, along with the title "american psycho," sort of just represents the average yuppie american in the 1980s - climbing the corporate ladder, exercising to exhaustion to look good, making mountains of money & spending to impress people they don't like. millions of americans were full of rage & probably going on mental killing sprees now & then. lol i felt this film was a satire of inner rage of those kinds of people.

the filmmakers are kind of idiots though. they claim they never intented to make it appear as if all the killings were in bateman's mind. they say they wanted us to believe it was all real. haha yeah. a lady screaming bloody murder, running down the hall pounding on doors, while a chainsaw-wielding maniac chases her.. no one wakes up/opens their door. he actually *wins* the shootout with police and somehow makes their cars explode. (what do they drive, pintos?)

This film wasn't intentionally made to be funny, in fact the manner in which he carries out his killings is rather disturbing, but this was lost in translation somewhere. I suggest everyone reads the book, that'll give you nightmares and expose the true horror of Patrick Bateman.

@bitteoszillierensie A big part of the movie (even more in the book) revolves around how he and everyone he associates with are rich yuppie white assholes. Hell, the opening of the movie has them paying high into three figures for dinner at some fancy restaurant. You know the kind, with tiny portion sizes and little dabs of sauce for "decoration". And they use the phrase "Only X dollars". I can't remember the exact amount, but you get the idea.
