i think that culex was origionally supposed to be a FF boss but he was either never put in any of the FF games or the game that he was supposed to be in never got made or something.

For the longest time i thought Culex was from a Final Fantasy game and I drove myselft nuts trying to find him, only finding out he was a Mario RPG special....

You get the Quartz Charm, which halves all damage done to the wearer, damage inflicted by the wearer (physical, magic, item attacks) by 50% and prevents instant death against the wearer. It's totally worth it, but DAMN is it hard if you're not well equipped or leveled up enough.

That would be correct. Culex never appeared in an FF game. Strange that he seems to hint that he'll either meet Mario or the player in another game.

There was never a Culex in an Final Fantasy games.

They made him specifically for this game, as a very strong nod to those games.

That's why there are those crystals, etc.
