That can't be too good for the starter... since you are using it a lot more, I'm sure you have to replace it more often. Starters aren't cheap, specially on a Land Rover.
before you start trying to review cars make sure you know how they work the air con starts the engine because the pump works on a pulley that is turned buy the engine crank, also this stop start is wank because it would seriously shorten the life of the starter motor not to mention the time delay waiting for the engine to start it would get on my tits
a bit rough on the restart, it could be annoying after a while. And I would have thought that the engine starts if you put the air-con on because it needs the compressor, not really to pruduce more electricity , just a thought ...
Greenest cars out there is a series 1 land rover ;-) 60 years old made of Aliminuim interchangable parts none are sent to the scrap yard because there all reused recycling to the max same with all land rovers!!!
So if you have to sit on the M25 during the summer the engine will start to keep the air con on and you cool? Nice idea if you hug tres, but as we all know a carbon footprint is where a lump of coal hits the floor why bother, go buy the new 5lt auto Range Rover when it comes out if you want a 4x4, if you want to be 'E' go buy a G Whizz and look stupid!
Is this feature selectable? Quick throttle response saved me from a collision while trying to navigate a busy junction on a trip to Manchester last month..Not me at fault a speeding BMW was to blame...
Not needed, the starter motor is engineered to last way more starts than a normal one. Why would it not start at a major junction? The car is engineered NOT to do an eco stop if there's a risk of not being able to restart
Next step has to be a (4 weekly) podcast in my opinion.
The Autocar podcast downloads automatically to my iTunes when I come online and is one of my main sources for new car news and reviews.
Anything is better than TopGear these days.
Re: the video above; does the engine cut only after the handbrake is applied, or simply when the clutch is depressed at a stand-still. i.e. are there any issues with clutch control and hill-starts etc?

Why not just turn the engine off with the stop and start ignition button when you are in traffic... Derr

The 2003 onwards TD4 Freelander has a 2.0 BMW engine. Should be more reliable than the 1.8 petrol and the old head gasket lark - surely?

How much are replacement starter motors these days? And what do you do when it turns over but doesn't start at a major junction?
