If you are going to use this argument that you cannot trust what was written about Jesus then you must also use this same argument about any other historical document as well. Plato for example, closest manuscript is 1000 years after his death. Shall we also reject documents of historical presidents?

Concerning the death of babies, since Adam and Eve sinned, their offspring have been affected. You cannot charge God with injustice for abusive parents! We are affected by our parents. The joy of being alive is commiserate with the application of God's law. For example, bitter people do not have joy. It is a law, a fixed law. God's creation is a reflection of His unchanging nature. Why religion is a drag is because it's in all ways a crutch. The counterargument that religion is love is further contradicted by the war campaigns of the Israelite Judges and the Book of Leviticus. The only time the Bible values love is in the New Testament - and even that's flawed.
Human individuality does not allow for that. Too many opposing ideas.

I can't wait until free will is shown to be an illusion. Our choices aren't that varied anyway, except when you boil it down to our unlimited number of thoughts and wishes. A will can never be God's. Also if I feel I'm making no progress with a particular religious person, I would rather not end the encounter on a sour note that they can point to later as evidence that "all atheists are shrill, miserable, angry people who rebel against God like teenagers against their parents" (someone actually said that to me).

THE ODDS of the sequence of molecules in a cell coming together by chance are similar to the odds of magnetic letters randomly bonding together in a sequence to form all the words and sentences in a dictionary. If a variation occurs that helps a species survive, that survival is called being "selected." That's all it is. There's no conscious selection by nature. It's a passive process. APES ARE QUITE COMFORTABLE IN HOW THEY WALK, just as humans are quite comfortable in how they walk. The entire Bible especially the NT is an example of how we must live like Christ. Romans 6:1 "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! They are similar, DNA is similar, different body parts are similar, but can we test it other than that? "My shirt is grey, this rock is grey, it must be made of rock" that is the level of secular hypothesis we are subjected to. Many creationist scientist believe in the great flood which explains certain fossilization, but secular cannot explain it. Still rejected.

I am surprised by the amount of comments I've read in this post from people that are inaccurate. I truly appreciate the way the law student approached his valid questions, he did it with kindness and respect. But folks, I encourage you to first read the bible first before you make faults comments. Evolution is a faith (look up the definition of faith) It must have been some time during the evolution stage when everything was evolving, partial body parts, organs. Glad we stopped evolving! serious

@ourfaithinchrist - Sorry to tell you this, but your lack of ability to distinguish between testable, provable, repeatable, hard science (evolution) and *faith* perplexes me. They are two completely different animals. Faith, by definition, is the belief in something you cannot prove.

There are scores of biologist who have come to this conclusion because they took the time to study the "assumptions" many evolutions don't consider. They teach evolution as fact, but people often do not take the time to study the hidden assumptions of evolution. do you believe that for you to even exist you must have a mother and father?

Now in faith, different story, by the very definition of faith itself. *Assume* that the people who wrote the bible even knew Jesus? No. It was written from 30-70 yrs after his death by ppl. After which time it was translated, edited, re-edited how many times over and picked apart by how many dictators over time? Believing in such a text and taking it literally is the very epitome of "assumption", really.

@ebruceii Hi, you are correct to say the Gospels Mathew, Mark, Luke and John were all written within less than 30-70 years of Jesus. The Gospels were certainly "eye-witnesses" of Jesus. If you are going to use this argument that you cannot trust what was written about Jesus then you must also use this same argument about any other historical document as well. Plato for example, closest manuscript is 1000 years after his death. Shall we also reject documents of historical presidents?

@ebruceii your very argument is exactly why the Bible and the story of Jesus Christ has been unchanged for 2000 years. I used to say and think the same as you, that is until i started to research on my own. Pick up a few historical books, Plato, also, read about Suetonius (who is from outside the bible) who wrote about Jesus in 69AD-122AD. He wrote about Jesus and "the Christians" and how they were negatively impacting Rome - that was from his view. Nevertheless it's external evidence

@ebruceii, I did not say there were assumptions in Science I said there were assumptions in evolution. Before you respond to that you must define which form of evolution you want to discuss as micro evolution is not really evolution it is simply adaptation which can be explain within the DNA code. We were "created" to adapt. Can you prove that you do not need a mom and dad to exist? To prove evolution you must be able to prove that you do not need a mother or father to exist? seriously

As I said only micro evolution can be proven and tested, which again is explained in DNA code. Your heavily enbeded presuppositions have affected your though process. Public schools I assume?

@ourfaithinchrist Evolution is a proven fact. They only say theory, because science never says fact, it always keeps the option of being proven wrong open. However, in 150 years no one has proved evolution wrong. DNA, life, it's exactly as we would see if evolution was correct. So it is.

Big bang'ers will never prove it happened by chance, as creationist will never prove it was created. however, Jesus Christ did exist, he walked this earth 2000 years ago and died for you and he died for me that is provable fact, historically.

@Newenlightenmentnow - Dear Newen, I can see how this would be misunderstood but this is not the case there are several scriptures that clearly states we are asked to use our brains. For example 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Test everything. Hold on to the good. Again, we can't say it enough we chose sin and disobey (just as our children do to us as parents). I would recommend to first read the bible before conclusions are drawn based on what you've heard from people. That's what I did.

Is not Death and disease and famine and war because of SIN when Adam was created there was none of that Adam was made with no intention of Dying. Once he ate that fruit off the tree he sinned. Therefore sin entered man and entered the World. God will have nothing to do with sin so he removed himself from Adam and the World. Dominion on a legal level was given to Satan. From Satan and Sin comes death and War and Disease NOT FROM GOD.

Add Hitler, Khaddafy, the prison population of the world, you and I, and it would be decimated in no time. The human condition is going from bad to worse (e.g. climbing crime rate). Hell is the culmination of evil. How could it not be torture? It happens on earth, what do you think will happen when God removes His hand from the tidal wave of evil within the hearts of humans? Concerning the death of babies, since Adam and Eve sinned, their offspring have been affected. You cannot charge God with injustice for abusive parents! We are affected by our parents. God cannot let liars, thieves, sexually immoral people into a place of perfect justice. I hope this guy stops arguing and gets right with God. We do not know the day of our death. Foolish arguments will have no weight when God reviews the horrendous injustice of our lives. Yet, there is grace and peace in Christ.

The joy of being alive is commiserate with the application of God's law. For example, bitter people do not have joy. It is a law, a fixed law. God's creation is a reflection of His unchanging nature. Living apart from God is the very definition of hell, for God is love and justice. If a person chooses evil, the consequence is pain!

And trust me - I had a lot of faith in God.
Why religion is a drag is because it's in all ways a crutch. The counterargument that religion is love is further contradicted by the war campaigns of the Israelite Judges and the Book of Leviticus. The only time the Bible values love is in the New Testament - and even that's flawed.
Human individuality does not allow for that. Too many opposing ideas.

Like it or not, God has a time limit for you as well. You, like everyone else, has no doubt lied, stolen, or used God's Name in disrespect. I used to think I was a good person, then I met Christ. Being in the presence of God, I have become aware of how totally depraved people are. God is angry. Rightly so. Hope you will get right with Him.

@JohnFordDanceTroupe If you are aware of your sins, then you are aware of a moral law. If there is a moral law, there must be a moral law GIver Who is perfectly moral. If God is perfectly moral, then those who are immoral will be judged. The blood of Jesus is the only thing that can cleanse us from sin! God's judgment meets God's love and desire to see you in heaven. You can know Christ personally. All I did was ask! "Seek and you will find, ask and the door will be opened!" All the best!
