they should have used the Linn drum sounds that were integral to their sound. It sounds like they used wack sounding 909 drums—with a snare drum roll no less...ugh. Good to seem them still doing shows.
He is as talented a singer as he was then (ie no very) but a great show and the birds -MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLFFFFFFFFFFFFFSSSSSSSSSSS!
I cant believe the Human League played fer free an nobody told me? If Led Zeppelin do the same gimme a bell please? Or Pwei. Or ASF. Or Fudgetunnel. Or The Beatles. Or The Polyphonic Spree. Or (well you get the picture).
giguchan - I'm joking, but the tickets were quite expensive and from all accounts the concert was just terrible. A lot of the audience left before it ended. Had the Police been performing before Julius Caesar they surely would have been fed to the lions long before they got to ROXANNE!
SuperEliteTim - I am speaking of the Police concert that took place in Toronto in May '07. It was definitely NOT free and by all accounts a bore. My comment was posted out of place.
I LOVE the Human League and agree with others that they can still hold their own 20 years later. (Unlike, say, the Police :)
Pitumisio - Thanks. I like being right :) They look and sound terrific, and the music holds up. They are heavily featured on every "Lost 80's Lunch" radio program in T.O. [Just how we refer to Toronto]
Perhaps the wisest thing HL did (probably unintentionally though) -- that The Police and U2 didn't do -- was write songs in their 20s that didn't press their vocal ranges to their limits. That way, as the band aged and their ranges narrowed, they could still sing all of their songs effectively without straining.
Both Sting and Bono have been pushing their voices since the start, and now that their ranges have deteriorated, their old songs make that deteriation painfully obvious.
The sound's a little tinny, but the band looks great. Unlike some bands that are still touring (CS&N, Sting & his friends) Human League would be worth the money!
Joe - glad you agree. I don't know where The Police got the nerve to regroup and charge $. They played Toronto about 6 months ago and people are still talking about a class-action lawsuit to recoup their ticket costs.
Love it how most of their show is played live!
They're just awesome! Long live the Human League!

@soundscapenyc I agree...The keyboards sound good but like you said when the drums kick in, it doesn't sound right.

Damn. No offense. The song even sounds good from this crappy recorder. Most likely a cell phone, but it's all good!

I saw the Human Laegue in Wolverhamton doing the Steel Tour in December 2008.
ABC and Heaven 17 were there too.
The Human League were the best.

Human League = la British classe !
A quand un concert en France ? Même avec le poids des années ils restent des plus attachants.
Si quelqu'un sait quelque chose à propos de leur venue dans l'hexagone cette année 2008, merci de le noter. Paka !
