A lot of truth in this talk - best to view things with an open mind. People's perception of Islam is often formed by media and if i wasn't a Muslim I, like many people, would think its an oppressive religion but it is far far from that. That's why in the west the majority of converts to Islam are women.

Allah (SWT) knows best- also about the nature of both genders be it male or female. Islam is, now I come to think of it, a very sophisticated religion that needs further study for understanding the guides that was sent down to us. In 90% of the Muslim families the women do not work - they are free from that. If a woman does work it is her money which the Husband does not have any rights over . He still has to provide for her.

But that is not to say the overall message of Christianity is one of violence and oppression.

Really well done Green! The lecture was logically structured and made me reflect over my situation, my lifestyle as a woman. Allah (SWT) knows best- also about the nature of both genders be it male or female. Islam is, now I come to think of it, a very sophisticated religion that needs further study for understanding the guides that was sent down to us. It can't be more straightforward than this: follow the orders of our one creator with your heart. There's nothing materialistic to search for.

In 90% of the Muslim families the women do not work - they are free from that. If a woman does work it is her money which the Husband does not have any rights over . He still has to provide for her.

The true nature of women should not be presented to us by a man.

God has given us freedom of choice.

Islam does'nt oppress women neccesarily, but gives them second class citizen status, in islamic communities, women are looked at with suspicion always and are generally stereotyped as impure if they communicate with a male outside of the family circle. All in all it's just a stone age way of looking at life, but they still believe because they think they cannot function in life without any guidence from a illiterate person, of course its evident islam is incompatible with todays outlook.

Many Islamic states oppress women. They do base these laws on verses from the Quran. But this is not to say that Islam, or the Quran oppresses women. If you read through the book of Leviticus, there are many cruel and violent laws and punishments for adulterous women as well as others. There are many stories of righteous violence in the Bible. But that is not to say the overall message of Christianity is one of violence and oppression.
Pretty much every religion oppresses women in some way.

i agree nudity is a business.. but than again it's not abusive and not against the woman's will.. islam IS! because the rules are set in a religion .

1. iran is more or less extremist. "alone" means the two in one room w/ no one else. to get a drink is in a public place.
2. it is not preached, a woman requires a mahram (family member) when going out for three days or more.
3. there are also examples of unjust rulings in court but that does not mean it is right. when a woman is raped, the rapist is to be sentenced to death. period. different countries dement teachings of Islam. it's not right but that's just how it is.

1 not having complete "freedom" to do whatever one wills is not oppression. if u put it that way, the US is also oppressive b/c it does not allow prostitution.
2 a woman can get out of her house for the three days but not alone. you don't need to be out of your house for three days to be independent...again, you use "oppressive" very loosely
3 that's only dealing w/ financial issues in which the man is usually in charge. besides, if one witness is present, one is enough.

Anyone who buys in to a particular set of morals and beliefs like this has something missing. Something they cannot fulfill. From my personal experience Islamic religion is for sadomasochistic people, who loved to be told what to do, and in doing so exude unusual amounts of anger. I've read stories of what these people like to do to women (dare I say enjoy?). I would love to take these pussies on, one-to-one...give'm a taste of their own medicine...
