  • Everyone who is counting from when the speedometer moves is a tard. It has a delay, and in reality this is a 9 second 0-60

  • Jaguar recently produced a 1 cylinder engine, for people who dont know, this is an engine with only one piston, and in thier cold temperature testing facility it produced jus over a 1000BHP, then the exhaust became so hot it made the ventiliation extracts catch fire, i wouldnt have thought that engine had a catalyser on it

  • lol at everyone sayin VTR's are shit, i think people forget they may only have 98bhp (mk2) but thats pulling 920kg, giving it 106.52HP per tonne, which in all fairness isnt bad and if decat's dont do anything then tell me why race cars dont have them, i know their engines are bigger but for an engine to run at its peak it needs 1) a clean easy breathing cold intake 2) an exhaust with a certain back pressure 3) correct fueling, get this mix right and youll be surprised what small engines can do

  • To be fair lads I had a vtr with mild cams which pulled off the clock. Was ridiculously quick and never would have believed it untill then!

Taking the cat out all depends on what car it is and what mods you have already. as for the saxo vtr and vts doing over 130mph. my mates got a saxo vtr and other mate got a 106 gti both of them do over 140 SATNAV speed , so what come backs you got ?

    To be honest when ever i've raced a VTR or VTS i've never seen the hit 100mph cause it takes them a week to hit 100mph.

    Show me some proof that a VTR can do 140mph, lol

  • This talk of 10bhp with air filter and de-cat and a 130 top end is utter bollocks. It's a VTR with 73k on the clock, it's lost a few horses over the years, so I'd be surprised if the mods make-up the original 90/98bhp. A decat, if anything, is worse than standard, it provides minimal gain, you'll say it 'pulls harder' but its hardly noticeable, and an MOT failure. And an air filter, is it a K&N open cone filter job? I'd love to see a dyno graph showing any air filter gain anything above 5bhp...

  • @jasonf81, nah that is almost 9. 60mph on a speedo isnt actually 60mph. when he shifts to 3rd its then when he hits 60. Gearbox ratios on a vtr don't allow 60mph in second (59.5mph) so as soon as the change its pretty much 60.

  • Its a 2000 plate vtr,its got a straight through exshaust witch is de-cated and it has an air induction kit thats it. top end is 130 and 0-60 is about 8 seconds,standard vtrs do it in about 9 and have a top end of 117!

    lol a de-cated & air filter only adds about 10bhp and does nothing for the top speed. you need a new cam and transmision mods to do that.

    adding 15mph does seem alot for those 2 mods, but i agree they do add some top speed! my 106 gti standard got to 131mph, wiv full exhaust/manifold/decat and filter it could get to 141mph. not bad really ;)

  • @jasonf81 if the engine doesn't have the power to reach the rev limit, and then you add some mods and it revs a bit higher, you can get a few more mph... that's not affected by the transmission...

  • its defo not a vts, vts's rev to 7500, have an oil gauge and a 140 on the clock u ken fukol

  • This is a VTR, cause them dials are out of a VTR cos for a start VTS's have either 130/140mph on the clock dependant on if its a mk1 or mk2

    Plus they have another gauage on the dials.

  • so if you change the tyres(like to low pro's)to improve handling and performance do you tell the insurance company,coz thats a modification:/

  • id check with the insurance on everything to be honest. especially the likes of alloy wheels, suspension mods and anything to do with the engine and exhaust. its not worth the risk of not getting an insurance payout for the sake of a few quid

  • erm.... afraid if you modify your car you have to tell the insurance company. simple. if you write it off and they see its been modified you will not get a pay out for your car, and you will have to pay for the damage caused to the other car/fence/person yourself. Its the same as not being insured at all and i would wring your neck if you bumped into me and my car didnt get fixed.

  • erm it depends really you wanna look at its service history for a start and hope the owners have lookked after it,depends how high the mileage your talkin is,im thinkin of selling mine and getting a mk1 VTS because i raced one the other night and the difference between them is phenominal

  • the car got has got 68k and full service history, id like a VTS but insurance is slightly expensive lol, group 14 for an extra 8 valves, friends of mine have got valve conversion so they havnt got to tell insurance then.
