I love rejection letters from publishers.

I keep all mine in a Manila file. I thought that would spur me on; instead it just looks creepy...

Don't feel so deeply about 'rejections'. There are thousands of reasons, mostly more to do with the publisher's needs, amount of space etc. and they may be wrong. Keep at it. I think you have very immediate comedy performance skills, and if you wrote your own stuff, it'd be a hit in a different format. Your family precludes going on tour, but you could try local radio as a start. And there's a European market for books like yours that have a modern Americana feel. Don't overlook it.

it's from being from the midwest. most midwesterners probably don't realize that they sound like that, actually. but more and more often i think it sounds kind of cute... ;-) the culture of the midwest has many strengths, the people there value being forthright and nice to each other, but the rest of the country is turned off by how cold and gray it gets...

I didn't even notice until now that we even sounded like this... I recorded my voice and it sounds just like this!!!! AHHHH so weird!
