  • I remember the say this came out.

  • Weird...that I haven't seen this in 30 years. Still as strange as ever.

  • @0:16, shouldn't his tie have an outline of japan instead of texas?

  • I wanna find those 5 turds that disliked this...stupids....

  • I really do not care what gender Rodan was. I just find it hilarious and leave it to Mike to do a "Weird Al" with his own songs! I enjoy Mike Nesmith and his music! I also love the "WON TON TOMATO" sketch!

  • is it my imagination or do sveral mike nesmith songs have the same exact melody?

  • Great to see an artist do a parody of their own song

  • @homemoviescolorado

This. Its amazing. He took a song (one of my favorites) and made his own parody. Brilliant!

  • @JNNYBRN

This video was made 30 years ago, and is part of a video Michael made called ELEPHANT PARTS, which won the first ever Grammy for video of the year.

  • nothing quite like japs being stepped on by gigantic radioactive lizards.

  • i can't believe he would do this to his own song

  • @jcfbell3001 I can totally believe it. Ever seen an episode of The Monkees?

  • @CaptHayfever

no, sir, i have no idea of what is this 'monkees' of which you speak

  • @jcfbell3001 I can't tell whether you're being sarcastic, so I'm gonna take it at face value:

The Monkees was a TV sitcom & band which Nesmith was in during the 60s. They made fun of themselves all the time, & Nez himself was one of the funniest members.

  • @CaptHayfever

ah ok, very good, thank you and god bless

  • That was probably fun to film. : D

  • Just in case you folks didn't scroll all the way back to the beginning of this Big Pile 'O Comments or are not familiar with the works of Michael Nesmith, this video is part of a "straight-to-tape" (they didn't have DVDs - or even CDs way back when..) production Mike did in 1981. I still have the Elephant Parts VCR tape around here somewhere... God was it funny!

  • I still love this stupid fucking movie with all my heart...

  • @patton303 It's not really a movie; it's more just a really long music video. (In fact, it was the first "Video of the Year" Grammy winner!)

  • @CaptHayfever

    Tomato... Toe mah toe

  • Rodan was male, a giant dinosaur bird, and came out of a mountain, not the ocean. The Godzilla legs and feet stomping little toy buildings are pretty cool. All in all, pretty lame tho'.

  • I wonder how much of Nesmith's stuff was infuenced by Python!

  • Ohhh, man, I remember this home video most fondly. My Dad owned it and we watched it regularly, and it still holds up well as hilariously funny to this day. Funnier than idiots like Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler ever will be, anyway.

  • this is the second coolest video i've ever seen

  • XD oh god I love this. it's been in my head for 29 years. thank you.

  • LOL it's Reptar from the Rugrats XD

    Nez ftw

  • Elephant parts IS available on DVD. Complete with inexplicable commentary from Mr. Nesmith.

  • I'll NEVER forget the night I saw this come on TV the first time. PLEASE powers that be...release Nesmiths stuff onto DVD already. PEACE MIKE !!!!

  • lol....oh my...talk about synchronicity!

  • My only complaint is that it wasn't longer. The two miniature women could sing backup.

  • My bad. The two miniature women summoned Mothra, not Rodan.

  • I'm loving his Texas tie.. :)

  • I always thought that Mike Nesmith was the cool guy in the Monkees and Danny Bonaduce was the cool guy in the Partridge Family, by and large. They certainly lasted longer than most of their fellow castmembers. Glad to have Danny in Philly, but wish he weren't going against Michael Smerconish.

  • THis is feckin' great!..I clicked on this looking for Joanne..imagine my delight! :o)))....good on ya Mike!

  • The only thing that could have made this more perfect is if his words didn't match the movement of his lips, Other then that this was friggin funny!!

  • this was hilarious I love it I cant stop laughing HAhahahahahahahahhhHHhhahahahahhhHhahahahhahahahzhhahhHhhhhhahahahahahahahah! cough, choke, giggle, sizzle laugh again HahahahahahahahahahahaHAhhahahahahahaa

  • Mike's filled with glee at the destruction. Love it. :)

  • Classic!!!!!!!!!

  • TOOOOO FUNNY!

  • Could you post the skit "Name the Drug"? That was my favorite skit in Elephant Parts.

  • Brilliant. I love Wool Hat!!

  • Sora no Daikaijū Radon (空の大怪獣 ラドン) (or simply Rodan) is a 1956 Japanese monster movie featuring giant pteranodon like creatures and prehistoric arthropods called Meganulon. That is what Rodanne is mostly based off of.

  • that was Rodan... IT"S A SELF PARODY ON HIS HIT JOANNE!

  • taken from "elephant parts", nesmith's hilarious video. it's a take-off of his song "joanne"

  • Isn't the tune in this the same as the one in Magnolia Simms?

  • WHAT A MOTHERFUCKING TRIPPER!!!!! I love this whole film!!!!

  • Mike is handsome but I wish he would get rid of the beard and moustache, he would look so much better without it!

  • LOL!

    Hey, thanks a lot pawnshopsign!

  • Actually I'm pretty sure Rodan was a giant pterodactyl like creature who did most of it's damage with the airflow from it's wings. I also think it was a male. Also I believe he spawned from underground, not the ocean. Also I.....will somebody please tell me to shut up?

  • LOL!!

  • It's little known that Rodan was a pioneer in the Japanese transexual community.

  • Ambisexual, eh? Might we assume his/her more destructive phases (periods?) were during the female phases?

  • Destructive, no. Completely impossible, yes. It's great being kept up all night because she's hungry and nothing will do but an Ecuadorian. This is Japan, dear! There are no Ecuadorians! Maybe try flying to Ecuador instead of waking me up to complain about it. And could you ease off on the molting? Your shed scales are underfoot everywhere but God forbid I set a cup down without a coas... Hey! Blowing gusts now? Oh very mature! Right, that's the limit, I'm going to the pub.

    *SLAM*

  • Ah, the sad, weary voice of experience. There are times in my life when I regret never having settled down with the Japanese B-movie monster of my dreams. This is not one of those times. No, bachelorhood is the way to go--find em, destroy a major metropolitan area with them, forget em.

Hey, come to think of it, in that horrible Godzilla movie in the late nineties, didn't HE wind up laying a passel of eggs in the NYC subway? Transexual movie monsters! Hiroshima is avenged!!!

  • Given the number of bittersweet East/West unions likely to result from that clutch, ol' Tojo's had the last laugh to be sure.

Don't mistake me - I love her dearly, but marriage to a gigantic radioactive monster isn't always the basket of roses that one might expect. At least she's finally hared off to Ecuador instead of rawk-ing endlessly about it.

  • Yes, at least initially love is blind...and deaf....and has no sense of smell.

And while I know we hardly know eachother, I have a huge favor to ask. If this marriage made in heav...scratch that...made in Osaka twixt you and your beloved Ro has by some act against nature resulted in offspring, I would be forever in your debt if you would NOT forward any pictures of the little monsters. And that videotape of the wedding night is RIGHT OUT! Other than that, mazeltov.

  • We haven't been so blessed, but upon reflection, this waking up at night craving odd foods... the moodiness... the shedding to a ridiculous degree...

    My God, can it be?

    Cigars all around!

  • Careful. Those cigars can be used to light torches while searching for your pitchforks.

Here in East Texas we have three congratulatory cigars available. "It's a boy!", "It's a girl!', and "It's a...well damn!" Place your order today.

  • @oneofthe4truegods My sister said Rodain was a boy. I don't care. This is funny. :-D

  • @oneofthe4truegods LOL, I was thinking the same thing...but not the shut up part.

  • @oneofthe4truegods rodan was a flying dragon like creature.

  • @oneofthe4truegods OK you asked me to so ...shut up. It wasn't a pterodactyl it was Mike Nesmith here is the acual documentary prooof! Perhaps Al Gore could add this clip to his "truths" in his "true" movie. He could rename it "Gorezilla". Heh heh heh.

  • @oneofthe4truegods if someone hadn't by now...Shut up. :)

  • @oneofthe4truegods Yes, but this isn't about Rodan. It's about Rodanne. Silly. ;)

  • @oneofthe4truegods shut up.

    You're welcome.

  • I remember seeing this clip on TV when I was in my Teens

  • same here. :D

  • It is as funny now as it was then. I love it when an entertainer is big enough and secure enough to make fun of his own work.

  • LMAO

I love his face at 0:28!

  • Mike Nesmith is often credited with being the first to combine county music with rock and roll. Many give credit to Gram Parsons, while others say that the first album was Nesmith's. There are also those who credit Rick Nelson and the Stone Canyon Band with the concept of using country instruments (a steel guitar.) I imagine it really doesn't matter.

  • On his own, and as an influence to others, Gram Parsons probably wins out. But he rejected terms like country, rock, country rock and folk rock, favouring the epithet "cosmic" American music. The influence of Ian Tyson and "Great Speckled Bird" is largely unrecognised. His TV show featured American artists when they couldn't

even get arrested in the States. Nesmith faced down Don Kirshner and his pop-bubble gum crap securing a niche on AM radio for legitimate CR artists.

  • He's the one who came up with the concept of mtv isn't he?

  • @Bostonmisfit Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: This very video was part of that concept; it's a scene from Nez's hour-long music/comedy video "Elephant Parts", which was then spun off into the 2 TV series "PopClips" (which was all music videos) & "Television Parts" (which mixed music & comedy again like "Elephant Parts" did). "PopClips" was bought out by Warner Cable & used as the basis for MTV.

  • Is it me or does he look like a much older Tom Green? What was the name of that short lived t.v. show he had back in the 80's?

  • ROFL Thanks Ron, I`ve never seen this either!

  • haha lovely!

  • The man is an unsung genius of Rock N Roll

  • Great! I wonder if any one has "one ton tomato" from Television parts?

  • I have that on his "Dr Duck's Super Secret All Purpose Sauce."

  • Whatever happened to this show? It was some of the freshest humor I've ever seen on TV, before and since. I'd love to see Mike's take on George Bush.

  • I think they had this somewhere on the Academy Awards special that year (about 81 or 82).

  • ROTFL. Incredibly silly.

  • TO funny

  • TFF LOL

  • LMAO!!!

  • It always bothered me how the burger stand exploded before he even stepped on it.

  • LOL!!!!

  • Ahh I love "Joanne", so naturally, I LOVE "Rodanne"! I love how evil Michael looks!
