With the new movie bringing in hordes of new fans, I think a lot of them are going to watch this and learn the history! They also need to know that the Muppet Show was filmed in England, not Hollywood!
Poor Kermit he tried 2 do an epic karate chop like Miss Piggy but he just couldn't, I've always wondered how the muppeteers could make it look like the muppets were sitting in a chair and NOW I FINALLY KNOW! YAAAY! But it looks so uncomfortable
So great that we've gotten to a point in technology where we can share videos like this! continues inspiring countless children and adults decades later..such power
microphones.. and i'll assume we all know why .. lol
but since they use their hands for many things, and often in cramped spaces, a clip on mic wouldn't work, a standing or hanging mic is impractical, so the head mic, with foam filter on the tip and headband to make it comfy.. and the style of the headband.. just another reason them to dress funny
.... I seem to remember an episode of something with the muppets, not behind the scenes but the muppets themselves showing the audience how they work..
@SR893 I don't know if you've found this in the last 2 years, but I first saw this documentary as an extra on one of the first 2 Muppets Show dvd's :)
jim henson the original man of great clean brilliant comedy. R.I.P jim henson you are truly missed and you may be gone but you are definately not forgotten.
You know, when I watch these I can't help but think that rather than Jim Henson's voice coming from Kermit, it's more like Kermit's voice comes out of Jim Henson. I guess that shows how, as a kid, which one was more real to me. Maybe still is.
interesting you mention that. Most of the voices you'll notice are very similar to the original performer.. i think it's b/c it wasnt the voice that made the character but rather the performance, and the voice just sort of comes from that.
Oz is one of the most vocal people on my previous comment.
People ask him how he came up with so and so's voice, and the response is typically.. i didn't.. i perform the character, and then voice becomes synonymous with that character...... ofcourse that's not always the case (ie, Elmo sounds nothing like Kevin Clash)
It is great to sit back and watch these postings. My husband and I are huge muppet fans and recently went to Leland, MS (where Jim was born) to visit the Jim Henson museum.
If I could bring back anyone who didn't deserve to die so early, it would be Martin Luther King J.R., then Jim Henson (can't go against my black bros.!)
I hardly think any Jim Henson did was against your black bros. I like to think he broke down even more color barriers by showing that orange and green could work together.
This is amazing!! Where did you find this?!?! I used to take the book of this out of the library all the time when I young. That book is now out of print. I never knew there was a tv special of this.
you can hear kermit's voice in Jim henson's

Splendid! Star Wars and the Muppets; two gems that the states refused to make, but the UK caught the vision.

Pause it at 3:45. Clean that up just a bit in Photoshop and it would make one hell of a Muppet postcard. :)

18 years ago? Franz Oz joined Jim Henson in 1963, so that means this was made in 1981.
This HAS to be included in one of the Muppet Show DVD sets. Lots of great live footage of Jim and the gang.
