It's because of people like you that I effectively relegated my guitar to this coming winter's cordwood! Seriously, there's so much talent out there - forget "pop/top 40". I've been a frustrated guitar hack for over 30 years now, and still don't feel I know a damn thing about the instrument. Great playing (with admiration), BTW.
@greenwich1754 -- Thank you! You know, it's amazing what a little focused practicing can do. I've been playing for 35 years now but I wish I had known 30 years ago that with really difficult songs you can just pick away at them little by little. I could have been twice as good as I was back then if I had been willing to stick with things I couldn't quite do yet and just be patient.
Very nicely done. Is there a tutorial someplace for this tune? I read no music, been playing about 50 years, 25 of which is fingerstyle folk but this one eludes me. Help!
Hey Magicweb -- Thanks. Yeah, I struggled with finger picks 3 times before I finally committed and now I can't do without them. Here's my suggestion. Get the thinnest ones you can find. I use the dunlop .13 and .15 gauge. Since I am comfortable with a flatpick, I use the Herco thumb pick which is kind of like a hybrid traditional thumb pick and flat pick. I am thinking about putting together a video on how to use flatpicks, so subscribe to my channel and you will be notified when it's ready.
I have wanted to learn to play this for many years. Your version is spot on... Maybe I can follow along - now that I can see some fingering positions. Awesome job!! - Not sure I can use finger picks though... I have tried and have struggled. Any suggestions?
Thanks. I switched to finger picks about 3 years ago after trying them in the past many times. Now I'm hooked. Let me know if you want more info on the picks I use and how I figured out how to get used to them etc. I'm happy to share that info as I'm a big believer in using finger picks now. You get great volume and power as opposed to finger nails or finger tips.
Great playing. I really like that one. May I ask what type of guitar you are playing. Sounds bright with just the right amount of bottom. Like to have one. Thanks Mark
Thanks! The guitar is a Martin KS 000-18 (Kenny Sultan signature model). It's my first smaller body size guitar as I've always had dreadnoughts. It fits in your lap nicely.
nicely done. Great clarity from the MArtin.
