Poverty sucks. If nothing else these people on the streets can use smiles and sometimes even conversation. It has to be bad all the dirty looks and getting ignorred by everyone and people saying mean things like....Get a job you bum etc... These people need guidence, shelter, food, healthcare, and hygiene products. The least you can do is give a homeless person a package of new socks or toothpaste and toothbrush.

oh my god, why are you building churches in russia for..if these donations are for the poor why would they need another church. are you kidding me kicesie come on, ive been to russia they have enough churches they have been christian longer then america was even discovered....and we are going over there to build them another church..very strange

I'm not quite sure you understand how churches work and the function they serve... for instance the church we built was primarily set up to function as a 'soup kitchen' of sorts and temp-housing and then was used as well to worship God. Due to the huge variety of denominations out there you can't just set that up at any church structure.

We all have our ideas on how to fight poverty. I stated then and state now that I wish to move into a micro-financing sort of model after I do more research on it. I still stand by all the enormous good that came out of the 5000 it took to build that church/charity.

The food and clothing provided wasn't given only if you joined the church or attended or had anything to do with the religion. It was their way of doing what they felt Jesus wanted them to do 'what you've done to least of these, you've done unto me'.

I think going into a society and doing anything to change their culture is a very sad and ultimately horrible thing to do. Doesn't mean you can't present a religious message in ethical ways that don't potentially destroy their unique culture.

I think you are wrong about that. I don't think Drav1212 is feeling guilt. It is cynicism mixed with envy. I've seen it before. Some people can't believe that other people will be generous to the point of sacrifice, because they wouldn't. Drav1212 would never sacrifice financially for strangers, let alone foreigners, so he doesn't believe you, or anyone else would. So he looks for an explanation. Oh, look at the ring, the sofa, the house. She must be a hypocrite!

Now I'm really curious about this. That word, "hypocritical". I read kicesie's answers to you. But let's pretend you are right, that she is rolling in money. That she paid top dollar for her house. I have a little experience motivating people to take part in charitable projects. In my experience persistent gentle persuasion can work wonders. Build a bridge between the people you are trying to help and the people whose help you need. Make that bridge a personal connection.

I say this very gently and with nothing but love in my heart. Some people put in a great deal of work and sacrifice to support charities. Do not hold it against them if they decide your charity is not theirs.
