I grew up in the Philadelphia are but loved the Rangers. I took a lot of crap in high school for liking them, and this was the year they upset the Flyers in the first round. I felt vindicated. Then they upset the Capitals, and I thought they were going to win the Cup. The Canadiens and Patrick Roy ruined it though. Thanks for the post. Do you have any coverage of the Rangers vs. Flyers Game 5 from the same playoff year?
Great post mouth. This was one of my fondest memories of the Rangers from my elementary school years. They were a 78-point team that beat the Flyers and Caps (the number 2 and 3 teams in points respectively in the NHL) to get to the semis. Larouche and Beezer led the way and Ridley and Miller were great young players. We were not great but we played smart and kept our composure. Trading Ridley and MIller in December of 86 was easily the worst trade Espo ever made.

This was one of my favorite Rangers teams. I remember the year before the Flyers beat them 10 straight games.

I had the 79 game 6 on VHS but unfortunately erased it. I still have the whole 86 game 6 vs Caps on VHS. Espo and Rosen were the MSG broadcasters.

I remember that goal by Larouche. He was practically near the goal line when he scored.
Your correct the garden was rocking that night. I think the loudest I ever heard it was they beat the Islanders in 1979.

the last few minutes of that game 6 was the lowdest I ever heard the Garden.

The date is wrong. It was not April 27th 1985, but rather April 27th 1986.
