If he hadn't been in the restricted area, it would have been a charging foul meaning a turnover and no points to the lakers regardless of whether Odom did actually make the dunk or not. Instead, because he was inside, it meant a blocking foul so Odom got the 2 pts off the dunk and a chance for a third from a free throw.

On the other hand odom had jumped before he hit ray, as if he is not there. Therefore it is a defensive foul, because take it this way -"odom was dunking, but someone stood in front of him" , instead of allen was standing and odom bumped into him.
