@xPrinZ1 Actually this happened in Toronto, Ontario, Canada .... and I wonder what you would have said if they shot him, that would have been fully justified if they felt their lives or those of bystanders were threatened (ie. if he ran toward one) Mace and Nightsticks close too much distance against a knife. This officer found a step between these choices, and probably prevented the suspects death.

@TJDeadkid consider the alternatives.... bullet in the chest of the guy or a knife the chest of an officer. Car wasn't going fast enough to do any serious harm.
This is perfect example of using resources at hand to disarm someone without undue hurt to anyone. If they had shot him dead like no doubt many other police forces would have, you would still be critical.
I'm no advocate of police brutality, but this is just pure genius.

ot to use it. And people are going to sue the police on every and anything and just because they win does not mean the police are wrong in their actions. Usually it is just cheaper fir the department to settle than to pay court costs fighting it. That is the law in Missouri and I'd imagine it's the same in most states since officer safety the #1 rule for cops everywhere.

If your within 20 feet from a violent person with a knife actively being non compliant and aggressive you can technically shoot to stop the threat. If the man threw the knife or charged the police stabbing them they could have easily died or had life altering injures. He was obv brandishing the weapon and moving in towards cops. In the academy you take part in scenarios where you have to subdue "suspects" ... THAT is hard enough, even when you know they wont hurt you. Imagine doing that in real life under these circumstances...
