Goes to show that how some elevators are RUINED when they are modernized. It used to have a gate along with the operator. I am glad that South Carolina has left the rest of the elevator alone! The feds need to leave these vintage elevators alone!!!
great video loved seeing the manual controls. I was once able to opperate a 1927 lever also otis. It was a little more complex as it had automatic doors tied into the lever. For a working floor indicator check out The Driscoll Hotel (in Austin, Tx) 1886 wing. 2 modernised elevators still have a working original floor indicator on the ground floor.
One I've seen (dial indicator) that works is the 86-102 elevator in the Empire State Building. It still had the working hand control as well. I think it was a select-o-matic style, whatever those are called.
Yeah, too bad the dial doesn't work. I think they just wanted the modern stuff working, and didn't care to make anything old run again (besides the elevator itself).
@dieselducy Which one are you talking about? The one in Charleston? The one in Charleston is at the Holiday Inn on the corner of Meeting and Calhoun St.

@elevatorgeek88 I know. It would be interesting if the elevator was still operated by that lever.

Too bad the dial doesn't work. I've always wanted to see a real one of those; I've only seen them in movies.

Very historically nice elevator, and it's amazing how they have the old fixtures in there, even if they don't work.

There is one historic elevator in Asheville, NC that has a working manual handle and an elevator operator. It is at the Flatiron Building.
