Why was Melies so interested in Satan/The Devil as subject matter in his films ? Besides this, there's also the one about the Devil in a Convent. Those turn of the century 1900's folks were really into the occult! The imagey is so bizarre but yet beautiful
hey, its not that Melies was so interested in Satan, its just that Melies was interested in the fantasy genre, the crazy, the unique, the awe inspiring he adored characters that he could really explore and use to make his films visually interesting. now if your looking for a contriversial and interesting character, look no further than SATAN! Melies just wanted to excite his audience!

This movie and others by Georges Melies is featured in a book about Georges Melies called " The Invention of Hugo Cabret" It is awesome!
