So, that's 5.5 seconds from the peak to hit the ground.

Without any drag (wind resistance):

d = 0.5 * gravity * time^2

d = 148 meters = 486 feet

also the tank didn't go straight up. it went at an angle, probably 70-75 degrees or so, which means it had a trajectory which means gravity doesn't really play a role in how fast/hard it hits other than it makes it do an arch. so the correct test..

However, you're right that the distance from the explosion to the landing site should figures into the speed. Let's say that's 500 ft. 500 ft / 11 sec = 49.9 km/h.

Using the Pythagorean theorem, v^2 = 49.9^2 + 194^2. v = 200 km/h = 124 mph. That's an extra 6 km/h or 3 mph when considering the explosion to landing.
