  • I really love the spirit of this. Very interesting design concepts. The layout of the city is wonderfully utilitarian. GREAT first anim. You and your team have a lot going on.

  • HoMM 3: Froge town. 2012 version

  • Nice,if this video will having HD version will be much more better^^

  • this video is NOT steampunk

  • huuuh! I just got a boner.

  • reminds me of the city in The Doctor Who Christmas Special The Christmas Carol

  • Its Midgar from Final Fantasy 7, But done with stone, its actually quite brilliant.

  • Who cares what kind of thing it is.

Nicely done, especially for your first animation.

  • it's good, but that's dieselpunk lol

  • not sure about steampunk, but it sure smells of diesel.

  • looks like midgar

  • well in my opinion.. I say maybe its .. very.. advanced..steampunk :V

  • this is beautiful!

  • muito bom! Parabéns!

  • its actually hybrid electric punk

  • THis looks good, thought I believe that this is more dieselpunk than steampunk

  • steampunk city in rise of legend n final fantasy 9 lindblum is nice too...

  • u can't add anything to this that would make it steampunk. you can't say it's 'not really steapunk' it totally isn't. steampunk is the future imagined thru the eyes of the victorians. it has a more eccentric, hopeful tone. this is totally dystopian but it's definitely not cyberpunk either.

  • its awesome i think it would be better with music though

  • Cathedral styled building along with landing pad. Nice steal from Ghost in the Shell 2

  • cool

  • I'm impressed : D Dude, that castle kicks ass!

  • Christ that must have taken ages...ignore all the Steam-tards this is great

  • less gay modern tech more copper

  • we should go make a real steam punk city!

  • more of a cyberpunk city than steampunk..but nice anyways

  • The cathedral (or whatever it is) looks pretty awesome.

  • δ-δ

  • Great job,but its missing something. STEAM

  • it does not look to steampunk but cool as shit none the less

  • Hmmm... Well its not Cyber-punk or steam punk. Looks very Tesla punk to me. It's like a post-steam punk era during Nikola Tesla's era.

  • it looks like a mix of star wars and F.F. 7

  • add some music or sounds.great animation

  • cool

  • where are the mako reactors? =P

  • freaken sweet!

  • awesome citadel

  • D : thats so amazing..........

    Its cyberpunk though

  • I would have to disagree. Cyberpunk usually doesn't show industry in their cities like that and the bridges aren't cyberpunk-esque

  • I shall remeaber that ^^

  • too organised, when you think of steampunk cities you need to think of smokey sprawling areas, but still better than i could do

  • needs more brass and copper

  • Very nice. Very FFVII

  • looks like Midgar.

  • i was about to say the same thing.

  • Yeah - very cool cyberpunk, but not steampunk. Regardless, great job!

  • Great... but not steampunk. Give it some flashy neon lights and it'd be very cyberpunk, though.

  • your vid is awesome:)!

  • I'd die to live in a place like that.

  • ur a fucking beat

    but thats not steampunk

    ur a beast tho

  • i love it!, i would totally love living in a place like that

  • HOLY SHIT!

How did you make this masterpiece :O?

  • piece by piece id assume

  • Shinra O_O

  • hell of a nice job. but that's not steampunk

  • Reminds me of a steampunk version of Gotham Ciry in the latest Batman movies

  • Wow, that looks alot like shinra from final fantasy 7!!!!!

Just replace the Castle with their building and boom!

  • very good, i have been trying to make a city scene for awhile but have only gotten around to making like 6 sky scrapers

  • Is it Shinra?

  • Reminds me of Vigilante 8 2nd Offense.

  • looks kinda like bowerstone from fable 2 in the furure

  • wow awesome

  • It reminds me of Midgar from final fantasy 7, its just the circular,. industrialized polluted city theme though.

  • how do u create a city in maya? everytime i try, my project goes slow because of the amount of polygons, all im doin is duplicating houses.. i dont get further than 6 houses... please tell me how u make a full city with hundreds of houses and other buildings

  • bombing mission

  • it wouuld be better if you add some music

  • I really like it. Very nice work.

  • That was pretty good but. a better Idea for the camera is to shoot the whole city wide shot, then come in closer to show the details of the city then move the camera up and around the tower. Other then that I thought it looked fantastic.

  • remends me of the book storm theif

  • it's damn good but too dark for steampunk

and it does look like midgar

  • I'd call this industrial goth, but it's still a brilliant job

  • Not really steampunk, but I must say the architecture amazes me!

  • kind of reminds me of Midgar from Final Fantasy VII... but I loved it none the less, amazing work

  • Awesome, i agree, this would be an amazing game backdrop / intro.

  • Excellent!

  • wow this is great you should look into making a mmorpg!this city is perfect for it!!

  • Not exactly steampunk, but still nice!

  • Very nicely done! (it's what I do for a living too)

  • thanks for all the nice comments. i am at lucasfilm animation now. and I would agree with everyone who says its not really steampunk...in the concept phase I had a way more steam punk looking thing going, but when we made it this is what came out,...steampunk just stuck with it

  • I'd say somewhere between steampunk and gothic. Leaning towards gothic though in my eyes and I guess it's that cathedral looking building that makes it.

  • @rkrehe20 Wow cool job working for Lucas Film!! I,m Jealous

  • @rkrehe20 It's awesome though. Congratulations on landing work with Lucasfilm.

  • @rkrehe20 Looks cool, but you did nothing original. This animation is a complete ripoff of the city of Midgar in Final Fantasy 7.

  • Good job, but I feel like it's more cyberpunkish than steam punk. n_n

  • Great city you created!!!

  • The panning is a little jumpy, but otherwise it's a great animation. Looks like something from a video game. Very nice.

  • Looks like some towns from Heroes of Might and Magic V.

  • Great!

  • that's not steampunk. don't know what it is, but it's not steampunk

  • That is your FIRST work? You guys are going to be purchased by Square-Enix or somebody someday.

  • the 3d work is AMAZING ! Congrat !

I guess your influence was Midgar from ff7 ?

But I agre with Alphapintfilm, it's more a cyberpunk city rather than steam punk !

    But very good job!

  • either midgar or city 17, that main building look like that one in half life 1 before it goes catatrophic

  • reminds me of ff7 ;)

  • Idk, it looks more cyberpunk than steampunk.

Needs more rust, and less office building looking thing at 0:30 and more of a victorian feel.. feels to modern, especially the debris near the "castle"

  • I was thinking that this would go great with the Abney Park song "Airship Pirates"

  • Wow, I played this video to a song called "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" (aka its the intro song used in Wall-E. And it fit perfectly, the cuts were to the music, it was crazy, great job!!

  • Holy crap, this is awesome. Don't put music to this. Watching this silent is a cool effect.

  • yeah i agree. it works well,

    looks mad.

  • is this a game?cuz i have no clue what steampunk is :P

  • shouldn't the smokestacks spew white cloudy smoke instead of smog? it is steam right?

  • fun to look at, but completely derivative =D

  • Amazing!!

  • Damn cool, shades of FF7 and, if i may be so bold to suggest, WH40k?

  • It would of been nice with some abstract music, or background sound like steam or machinery. But the animation is good :>

  • something on youtube not shit? Careful, you're tipping our standards up a bit.

    Excellent work!

  • This is quite a nice steampunk-come-dieselpunk video. music would've been nice, but it would've been hard for steampunk.

  • Very futurist. I like it, though :)

  • actually FF7 design was inspired by steampuck to help make it more dark

  • Final Fantasy 7

    It's a very famous game.

  • I love this. Great job :)

  • Nice work. It looks kinda cyber/steam punk, but all in all, an amazing piece of animation!

  • look it up in wikipedia

  • Then don't ask

  • Its more then punk music played with steam... thats just a small portion. Steampunk is a movement that captures a "by gone" era, and asks "What if future we know now, had been back then?"

  • Steampunk, a certain style both asthetic and literal that is the setting in a bygone, Victorian Era world of a future that never was. Think Jules Vern or H.G. Wells but seeing that you enjoy asking silly question, I seriously doubt you read for pleasure if et al!

  • Exactly. :-) Oh, wait... My computational engine is chopping again ! ;-DDD

  • Woah!! That is astonishing!

  • What program did you use?

  • this is all done in maya

  • I chose the Rapture!

  • That was AMAZING. I'm seriously in awe, as I'm technologically retarded, but I love this. I'm going to watch it again with Requiem for a Dream playing in the background.

  • looks more cyber- than steampunkish, but nonetheless pretty damn cool.

  • I agree with Fred over here but those external braces are just damn cool.

  • rkrehe20's creation is my second favorite steampunk city. The greatest steampunk city is in the Sega Saturn release of Wachenröder.

  • very cool, I'm in 3d design at my school and I can't imagine doing anything that intricate.

  • That is tremendously aweosme, love steampunk stuff. =]

  • I was also wondering. The city reminds me a lot of Midgar from Final Fantasy VII. Did that inspire this?

  • not really. a lot of people have made that connection, however, I have never played fully though FFVII. I wasn't really thinking about it when I made this

  • That is pretty cool :)

  • Hey...I would really like to add a short soundtrack to this. Please message me if you will let me download the video!

  • the city's castle reminds me of the age spire in myst 4 revelation.

  • a great bit of design. love how you took influence of middle age and medievil cathedrals with the external supporting braces

  • quite liked it :o)

  • I like it. Terry Gilliam meets Tim Burton

  • With exception of the steam / smoke stack, it wasnt really Steam Punk.

For inspiration see: the industrial revolution -- but then again, it's probably pretty hard making computer animations... so countless cogs and wheels, and brickwork and pipes, etc must be quite painstaking.

A very good work over-all, though!

  • yeah it didnt really turn out as "steam punk" as I wanted. we had a ton of pipes modeled to put in, but deadlines are deadlines so we didnt have time to get it to that point. thanks for the input though!

  • This is a real good animation, maybe the smoke doesn't look so real, anyway it's great. Congratulations to you a nd your group.

  • My favorite part was the 30 seconds of black after the credits.

Looks good though, nice take on steampunk

  • It's not exactly steampunk but it's a decent attempt at it for your first animation.

    Keep at it man. :)

  • That looks fantastic, shame theres no sound to set the mood, some (i know it might sound gay) opera or something dramatic over the top would make it top notch
