if im honest i hate those briggs 3Hp i have one and i class it as a waste of space, it is so temperamental and wont relay keep running unless its flat out. i cant get the carb set up right so thats my take on it.
@mrstuart143 That's interesting to hear because I'm still trying to get it to idle properly and it doesn't want to run smoothly. I know that the carb is giving me problems, one day I'll take it apart and see what the issue is.
@rambomathews This engine hasn't ran at all for over 10 years. It sat at the bottom of someone's garden covered in weeds and moss before I got it, you can see that in 'Part 1' ;)
@picapop12345 Hey man, it might seem like that with the drill turning it over but trust me, it has loads of compression. See how much the drill shakes when it turns it over. I did have it running for about 8 seconds in an earlier part when I poured some petrol down the carb. Still, MO3MINI has given me a tip on the fuel mix, so I'll hopefully have it running in the next part! :D
yep...like tjones2269 said, the float could stick and cause the gas leaking problem... tap it with a srewdriver like " zippovarga " did...." Cast Iron Briggs and Stratton Carb Rebuild Part 3 "
@MO3MINI Hey thanks Dan! I didn't have a clue how far out that was supposed to be, I've got it like 6 turns out lol :S I bet that's what the problem is, thanks for commenting! :)
warming the plug seamed to do the trick when I was younger we used to put our motorcycle spark plugs in the oven to warm them and dry them out if we had a stuborn engine.
once the leaks are sorted maybe just a little carb adjustment will bring it back to life.
I cant work on the floor now I have to have the engine up to waist height my knees and back dont like working so low.
@chox2001 Thanks mate, yes what you said about the plugs in the oven is the effect I was going for with the flame! It did fire a bit after that, anyway I don't think it's too far from running now. :)
@gpzDave forgot to say I like the drill and socket starter I have a chainsaw that I cant get starter dogs for so I think thats what I will be using to get it going.
@MrSteamdan Hi Dan, I appreciate what you're saying but if you don't keep it over the flame too long it doesn't get carbon build up on it, and in my experience that has started stubborn engines before. If you watch at 3:20 you can see the engine does fire a bit, but the carb still needs work.

starting these engines is easiest at full throttle and full choke

Hi, i think that bottom mixture screw should be about two turns out. Any more than that and will just flood the carb out

Putting the plug over the flame will make it worse the plug will get full of carbon and will make the spark worse ..

@tucksbestproduction That's a good point, I'll need to have a look at that. Thanks for commenting!

Nice Editing, why not just try some carb cleaner in the cylinder
